Subskin Armour

By Darth Smeg, in Rogue Trader

Greetings exalted opinion holders!

2 Questions:

Both armour and implants can benefit (or suffer from) the quality of Craftsmanship. Will Best Quality Subskin Armour gain an extra Armour Point as pr the Armour Craftsmanship rules?

Can tech-priests combine Subskin Armour implants with The Flesh is Weak? While the rules do not seem to forbid it, it would seem as the tech priest is removing his flesh and replacing it with machine parts there should be less and less skin to put the armour beneath, no? I see the combination of 3-4 levels of The Flesh is Weak, combined with 2-3 points of subskin Armour and then some power armour (Dragonscale from IH) as a bit of an over-the-top combo. (we're talking potentially 15 AP)

Subskin Armour may provide points of armour, but it is an implant rather than a set of armour so it only gains the craftsmanship benefits as noted for the implant. It is fully compatible with The Flesh Is Weak.

Followup question: Can you implant Subskin Armour in limbs that have been replaced by Bionics?

Ie, you have a Bionic Right Arm (which increases your TB there by 2). Can you also gain the advantage of Subskin Armour on that body-location?

I wouldn't allow that. You already get an increased TB from the arm that should be powerful enough. Of course you could simply refluff subskin armour to something like (additional) armour plating for the bionic arm but I feel like the increased TB already represents the additional resilience of the bionic arm quite well.

Just saw the latest extra for The Lathe Worlds, the free pdf .

It states:

cranial armour
Inserted just beneath the skin, Cranial Armour adds an extra level of protection that could be the difference between life and death. Cranial Armour adds +1 to any armour on the head, stacking with other types of armour as well as Talents that provide Armour Points (such as The Flesh is Weak). Poor-Quality Cranial Armour is crude and obvious, permanently reducing the user’s Fellowship by 1d10. Good-Craftsmanship Cranial Armour adds an additional +1 (for a total of +2)Armour to the head.

Hi Darth,

I would treat this as special case for said Cranial Implants for a the reason of balancing. Otherwise, high-quality sub-skin armour would become the norm about any effetive thinking, combat orientated character. A "must have" on every elite-fighters list.

Isn't it already?
