Count me in.

Felix, you might also want to check the "PLAYER FINDER" sticky thread. There are some people over there that could be interested as well. Also, browsing the aforementioned topic I stumbled upon this forum http://www.nerdbound.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=21 which incorporates a sweet dice roller mechanic. Assuming it's open for registration we might transfer the game over there.

Cheers!

Count me interested too. Been dying to scratch the Deathwatch itch for a long time now.

Felix, perhaps two players could be enough to start a game don't you think? We could always ask for more people to join in on that other message board I mentioned.

I'd join. I've got a character I want to try.

DJSunhammer, I read a bit of the "On the way to Erioch" thread. Great work roleplaying Ulfgrim. Also, the dialogue and interaction between hammer_2020 and yourself, in general, was pretty amusing. I'd like to try something similar, hopefully.

Tempted to ask to join in… but as I wrote the Phonos background in The Jericho Reach (amongst other things for Deathwatch), I'm worried that it might give me an unfair edge in terms of player knowledge…

That's a fun game. Moving a little slower than I'd like, but that's fine. What I liked most about the character is that I made him up on the spot. I'd been messing with an old, scarred wolf as a character for a while, but there was no way to make an old Space Marine without disconnecting the reality of a long life as a Space Marine with the starting power level of Deathwatch. The 'fall to the wulfen' idea was partly inspired by hammer_2020's post and partly by the Space Wolves omnibus. Namely the relationship between the Wolf Lord of Ragnar's company and the Lord's head Wolfguard.

First of all congratulations on writing the backgrounds. Personally I don't see a problem here, really. As the matter of fact you'd be able to contribute to the game from another perspective as long as you avoid the pitfall of metagaming so as not to ruin the fun for yourself. Perhaps you might even justify your out of game knowledge by roleplaying a character who invested a lot in the Lore skills, be they Scholastic, Forbidden or otherwise.

What always worried me the most when I thought of drawing up a character is how to avoid the more stereotypical views of a given Space Marine hailing form this and this Chapter. But why bother, cliches and stereotypes exist for a reason, being amusing in themselves. I would myself like to try a grizzled old Wolf or a dark and brooding Dark Angel.

On another note, isn't the starting power lvl of a Deathwatch Space Marine somewhere on the same tier as a veteran Wolf anyway? Btw I got the omnibus on my shelf, haven't started reading it yet. Is it any good, as in, epic?

The best description that I've heard for the two Omnibus is this: Tennaged Space Vikings with Guns. It is hardly the best of the Space Marine novels, but it is good for some entertainment and it has some interesting characters and settings. If you want good Space Wolves novels you should read The Burning of Prospero and Battle of the Fang. Those have a much more interesting portrayal of the Space Wolves as a whole.

That said, does anyone remember the name of the talent that duplicates the Tac Marine Squad Mode ability? I can't remember what book it is in.

Well, on that note, count me in. I'm thinking a Techmarine - given that Phonos is heavily tied to the Adeptus Mechanicus, I can see one being useful. Plus, I like the Mechanicus in the background, and have recently read Priests of Mars, so Tech-Priests have been on my mind of late.

There's no talent that duplicates it directly, but Rites of Battle contains a few similar abilities.

The Deeds Defensive Genius and Strike Team Specialist allow cheaper use of defensive stance or attack patterns, respectively, and allow the character to use and benefit from squad mode abilities from other chapters at a higher cost. Alternately, the Talent Forging the Bond is available to all characters at Rank 2 for 500xp, and allows the character to benefit from other Chapters' squad mode abilities and include Battle-Brothers from other Chapters in his Squad Modes at additional cost (that decreases by rank). In addition, at GM's discretion, characters may purchase squad mode abilities from other Chapters as Elite Advances for 500xp each, with a Renown requirement of 40.

Tnx for the info DJSunhammer. I would be interested in playing a Blood Angel Apothecary, or even a Sanguinary priest, should the GM allow it.

Felix, are we still on?

Sure!!! I was waiting for enough players… so… we are 4… MAYBE 5…

Any tips for a friendly user forum so we can run our game?

Well, the characters will be lvl 1… normal restrictions and rules… all books allowed… roll your stats as normal with normal dice and make a virtual sheet on excel, word, a fillable pdf character sheet… or whatever you see fit.

I expect a rich and detailed background since birth, youth, chapter recruitment and trials, life as a scout marine, or initiate, neophyte or wolf scout, or whatever your chapter haves…, also i expect heavy RP among the characters… (since the normal restrictions of playing by pbp)… in other words.. live and breathe your character…

The adventure will begin on Watch-Fortress Erioch and then… i'll take you from there to wherever the God Emperor needs you ;)

This will be my first grand campaing.. so… be nice to me… :) I really want to learn how to GM properly :)

Any ideas before we begin? I really would like to hear from you what do you expect… :)

Hey felixlucena I dropped you a PM expressing an interest in playing, just re-stating that here and that I'll get my character stats rolled and a back ground penned as soon as physically possible it'll be the next couple of days max. If that's still okay?

Sure!!! :D

Start rolling your stats and writing your stories guys!!!

In the name of the God Emperor!!! BEGIN!!!

Question… is there anything like a "master apothecary" on the books? i mean… an advanced class for the apothecary… is there any?

Only the Sanguinary Priest for Blood Angels. You could also go with some of the generic advanced specialties in RoB. Keeper, First Company Veteran or Champion would fit with what the Apothecary is already good at.

Also, would using Point Buy be alright? I prefer that over rolling dice.

Likewise. I just managed to roll 11 nine times in a row ;;>_>

Also, it dawns on me that we should probably let each other know what we're writing up so that we don't end up with a team of Devastators or some-such (that amount of dakka is reserved for the Orks). I'm writing up a Space Wolf Tactical Marine with the hopes of moving him towards Wolf Priest at Rank 4, but whether I lean more towards his Command or Lores is up in the air for now. If someone else is gearing up to lead, I'm happy playing advisor.

I've written a Carcharodons Assault Marine. I was planning on building towards a Chaplain, but I could easily with something else, considering we reach that point.

cccc watch out we got some min maxers on-board lengua.gif I prefer the rolls myself, it gives that unequivocal feel that you are what the God Emperor in his infinite wisdom chose for you to be. Then again, I understand that you would've never become a member of the Deathwatch Kill-team if you weren't a cut above the "average" Adeptus Astartes. So I guess it's up to the GM to rule this one out.

Sorry mate I am an inexperienced GM myself. Just started running my first Deathwatch campaign a few days back. I'll step aside for the other players to give you advice.

Regarding a PbP friendly forum, I guess there are a bunch of them out there. The first that comes to mind is the Nerdbound forum I mentioned, DJSunhammer can shed some light on the matter, or we could go to an altogether different forum supporting PbP mechanics.

I for one expect a game running more towards heavy RP with a nice mixture of combat of course. I am not overtly fond of long verbose posts, but I'll give my contribution to the story don't you worry. Let's just wing it and see where it leads us. I believe that we, the players, will give you enough material for you to build your story upon, be it taken from our background stories or the immediate interaction.

I was planning to create a Sanguinary Priest leaning vaguely towards a Chaplain, but that remains to be seen as I have the impression there are already a few of us with a penchant for those screaming, raving madmen cool.gif

I recommend RPol. I don't have anything against Nerdbound, but it is just standard forum software that some people use to do PbP games. RPol is specifically built for PbP games and it has a lot of features that are designed to make running a pbp easier.

Like I said, I'm more than happy to play second in command or lore-keeper if you'd rather take charge of things. Which were you preferring to do?

The character I've written doesn't really fit for a command type. I'm fine with a secondary role.
