Starship Threat and Despair

On page 157, Table 7-7, Third row, first bullet. The active character loses Initiative.

How does the active player lose Initiative? Especially after they have already rolled a check, to gain the necessary Threats, for the GM to spend them on this result?

That is pretty oddly worded.

I'd probably rule it as "the active character loses the rest of his turn" myself.

Or maybe next turn?

If the action that triggered it would have ended the active ship's turn anyway? Maybe. I'd probably find something else to spend the threat on at that point.
