Miniatures?

On the world of daydreaming, I'd love if they went to multipart plastic (ala citedel miniatures) for the war game miniatures. The idea of being able to make customizable Jedi and fifty combinations of Stormtrooper parts makes me gran_risa.gif .

I doubt they'll be allowed to do that, though, just like they can't make such miniatures for 40k, but can make pieces for boardgames.

Well, with the 40K line, there's the fact that the license holder's primary business is the production and sale of said minis.

With Star Wars, that's not the case, so the option is there for FFG to explore if they so choose.

FFG's best bet to make a profit on a prospective minis line would be to tie into a playable game, not just a minis line, as WotC tried that once (metal Star Wars minis) and the line bombed pretty badly. The WotC Star Wars pre-painted plastic minis line actually sold quite well, as the tactical game they were designed for was generally quick to learn, fun to play, and took advantage of the 'random booster" aspect of CCG's to further drive sales, That these same minis could easily be adapted for use in their RPG line was icing on the cake for them.

It is well known that floppy pre painted plastic miniatures make your genitalia shrivel up and drop off though.

:0)

Yeah - I don't think a 40k like range of unpainted wargames miniatures would actually be a terribly good idea for FFG to do. I just… Want them. Can't we make it happen? Guys?

For many of the reasons that people list above me, I'm putting my money on a Dust Tactics style collectible tabletop war game, with high quality prepainted plastic miniatures, and variable terrain tiles. I'm also betting they'll stick with the original trilogy (rebellion era) timeline to start with as well. This means rebel troops, storm troopers, secondary characters (Edge of the Empire type characters), and finally main characters from the films (Vader, Luke, Yoda, etc).
