Has anyone heard of miniatures anything about miniatures along with this game, or has anyone incorporated them into there games?
Miniatures?
Well, the game is designed to be run without a map, so I doubt there will be any sort of "official" miniature support coming from FFG.
But I like the concept of being able to use the Star Wars Miniatures that I spent a lot of my money on as well as some of the beautiful maps I've bought for use with this game as well.
The difference between using them in this game and say Saga Edition is that in Edge of the Empire, they are largely a visual prop. You denote where the range bands lie on the map, and the PCs can move their characters between them as they spend their maneuvers. Put miniatures next to each other to denote what's engaged with what.
Plus we've got those beautiful starship miniatures and more coming down the line for the X-Wing game, so it would be a shame to not use them in more capacity.
FFG announced at GenCon that there WILL be official miniatures for the game from FFG. Coming soon!
However, unlike Saga Edition, you really don't need them in this game.

Fair enough.

I guess I'm just surprised at hearing that. The text in the book prides itself on the abstract nature of combat. I'm also wondering how they will decide which miniatures to release. I guess generic character models are OK, but we have Wizards' minis for that.
Speculation: they would release character models based on their own modules.
I think it would be kind of cool personally to have some generic miniatures to add some visual effects to the game. I know I enjoyed the wizards minis for there saga edition to show the placement of the npcs and players.
I plan on using minis for the demo game I'm scheduled to run this coming Saturday, though they're going to be more of a general representation.
While I used to run almost entirely without minis in the past (mostly due to lack of funds and time to buy and paint proper minis), with the Star Wars minis line I've not only got suitable minis on hand, but I've come to find they do help the group keep track of who's where and doing what.
Besides, like Cyril I've bought just about every map and card tile set that Christopher West has created, so it'd be an absolute shame to let the awesome quality of that man's work go to waste
Whatever FFG decides to do with their miniatures line, you can bet that they'll be a different scale than the WotC & WEG ones… people are gonna have a choice to make!
Somebody said something about modules - do we know that FFG will be producing modules for this game? I'd enjoy having official minis of FFG-created NPCs, if they're gonna go that route…

Given previous experience of FFG RPGs, I think it's safe to say we'll have adventure/campaign books (just look at the 40k RPG line!).
When I run Pathfinder, I generally only use minis for really detailed encounters. Like in the tight confines of a fort, or in areas with a lot of pitfalls. I hated how 4th edition D&D was just a glorified miniatures game. That being said, I have a ton of Wizards minis that I rarely get to use.

When did they say that??? I totally missed it!
I was IN the Flight Report, and even ASKED Christian about FFG producing character-scale miniatures. I got an official "no comment"…
This is news! Where did you hear this??
At the actual presentation. There was a question specifically about it to the CEO. Check out the 20:49 mark of my video of it here:

LOL… Dude… I was the one who asked the question in your video… LOL…
And "we're working on things" and "we have the rights to make minis" does not equate to anything but a "no comment"… LOL… A far cry from confirming that they're planning on doing character minis, much less "soon". ;-)
But we can dream… :-). And if they're of the quality of X-Wing, I'll be a happy man!

I'm wondering if when FFG is referring to "working on things" for minis, they're thinking more along the lines of stand-alone games like X-Wing rather than something to be used as an supplemental aid for the RPG?

It could be interpreted as that, sure. That's why we'll just have to wait and see.

Exactly! What I forsee is a seperate miniatures game for troop vs. troop or character vs. character combat, possibly mixing minis and cards (ala X-Wing), which if purchased could be used with the RPG if one was so inclined. Now, so far FF doesn't have anything near close to a game like this (think Weird Miniature's Malifaux games), but I could definitely see this not only scratching our Star Wars miniatures itch, but alos filling the role of a Star Wars board game which technically FF aren't allowed to produced with their license.
I do wonder though, if FF does make character minis, will they be the same standard RPG miniatures scale, as seen in both Paizo and WotC sculpts, or will they go for something different, perhaps larger/smaller scale?
I would like a range of multipart hard plastic unpainted minis scaled to fit with Games Workshops output and style/anatomy.
.
.
..
Well I would.
Personally, I love the minis that all these companies make, however I only use them for "bad guys" and NPCs. My PCs use lego guys. With all the new sets/characters made, they mix and match and make something pretty close to what they are playing. It also makes the mat far easier to read as the PCs stand out like MoFos.

Personally, if they do go the route of producing their own minis line, I'd prefer the standard RPG scale, if only so that the entire sets that I've managed to collect of the WotC run don't look like midgets in comparison.
Not such a leap….Jay also hinted that they might be making some minis as well when I spent time talking to him one-on-one. What did you think the whole spiel was about when the second FFG guy went on, interrupting the CEO, about how they have the rights to do miniatures?

This is EXACTLY what I think will occur.

On the world of daydreaming, I'd love if they went to multipart plastic (ala citedel miniatures) for the war game miniatures. The idea of being able to make customizable Jedi and fifty combinations of Stormtrooper parts makes me .
