Elven Eagles (Solo Spirit Tactics)

By Ranger of the Force, in Strategy and deck-building

Here is a solo deck that I put together that I really like and was wondering if there was room for improvement. I only have a single core and have all expansions except CATC, KD, RG, RTR, LD, SF, and the Hobbit. It has played well against PtM and JDtA so far in playtesting. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

Heroes (25)
Gimli
Legolas
Glorfindel

Player Deck (50)
Winged Guardian x3
Vassal of the Windlord x3
Descendent of Throndor x3
Eagles of the Misty Mountains x3
Radagast x3
Gandalf x2
Imildris Stargazer x3 (for draw)
West Road Traveler x3
Northern Tracker x2
Light of Valinor x3 (l usually mulligan for LoV if I don't have it in my first 6)
Support of the Eagles x3
Blade of Gondolin x2
Horn of Gondor (put on Glorfindel)
Citadel Plate x2
A Test of Will x2
Hasty Stroke x2
Elrond’s Counsel x3
The Eagles are Coming! x3
Feint x2
Quick Strike x2

Strategy: Get LoV on Glorfindel ASAP, use Gimli to quest/soak up undefended damage, and pump up EotMM.

hey

this looks a nicely rounded deck. you have attack, questing and defense, and even with the horn a little bit of resource draw. only thing missing i think is card draw, though you have the eagles are coming, i was thinking something a little longer term

problem is card draw is lore, so im going to go over to cardgamedb and come back on that point

nice deck

Thanks, just trying to play eagles solo. I've seen decks like this, but they usually use Eowyn and Thalin. I thought I'd see what I could do with Glorfindel instead with the lower starting threat and better overall attack power, plus I didn't feel comfortable not having a heavy blocker among my heroes so I tried it with Gimli and am loving it. I never fully utilized his willpower before, but I have learned to put undefended damage on him to pump him while I use it. It is decently well rounded, except for draw and heal, both as you said are lore. My draw workarounds for the moment are the stargazer and Eagles are Coming. I could use Ancient Mathoms, but I am not sure if I have room. To me, aside from draw, heal is the biggest weakness of the deck, outside of Radast's ability. This means I couldn't really do all that well against JtR.

On a side note, I am curious if anyone's tried a Lore/Eagle deck? That would cure both my draw and heal problems.

I run a decent eagle deck with legolas eowyn and theodred…within a couple turns (unless the deck runs very bad) with theodred's resource boost and a song of battle (at least 2 or 3 in the deck) yo get to play a fair amount of eagles and with radagast and gandalf (sneak attack and born aloft) you get to quest decently…I did the whole shadows of mirkwood scenario and lost just a couple times (though I still have to test return to mirkwood) and I recently got to defeat shadow and flame twice

If or when you get The Long Dark, sub in Hama for Gimli. You will be able to thin your deck out with him constantly recycling Support of the Eagles. Also, with such low starting threat, I don't know if I would include Quick Strike. By the time you are engaging some of the nastier enemies, you should be in a good position to tackle them head on, instead of hitting them first. You could pop in the Ancient Mathoms in place of those cards. Just some thoughts.

But Support of the eagles is an attachment and it gains nothing of Hama's presence who works with events! Or I have misunderstood your thought. I think Gimli with an Unexpected Courage on can be pretty useful in solo play because of his ability to turn enemies into dust single handed, but as a descent quester also!

D'oh! I meant The Eagles Are Coming. Nice catch. I always get those mixed up.
