Two Hero Game

By Radish, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

After playing around with the game it feels like it is not balanced for two heroes. Since most of the quests require an objective it doesn't feel like having 1 around 1 monster less per group allows them to be able to do the activities that are required along with fighting off the enemies. Add in if one of the players rolls badly and goes down, it gets out of control very quickly as they are overwhelmed as they are missing one action per turn, probably clumped together and have almost no health and fatigue to last the next turn. We have played a bunch of maps with different overlords and the result is typically the same. Heoes do ok until one goes down and then it's just a matter of time until the Overlord is able to draw whatever card he needs (typically frenzy or dash) to win.

Does anyone else feel this way or is there a method of making a two hero party more fun?

Have each player control more than one hero. It changes the dynamic of the game but gives the hero more options, now u can use a healer and scout if those were lacking, or whatever it is ur lacking. I agree two seems harder but the number of people shouldn't aadetermine the number of heroes. I most play 1v1 while I control 4 heroes.

Hope this helps!

That's a pretty good idea thanks!

Last week my friends and I tried to play Descent with just two heroes, and I have to agree that it sucks to be the heroes. We had no chance as the heroes to accomplish our objective.

Yeah, the game should really be played with four heroes all of the time for the full experience. But, I can see three hero games just as fun if not a little more challenging.

Has anyone played with two players later in the campaign?

I here a lot of people saying that with 4 heroes the balance swings heavily in their favour later on once they are tooled up with skills and act 2 items. Might 2 heroes at this point be more balanced?

I'm wondering whether or not I should suggest to my opponent to introduce another character or two, to make it more enjoyable. But if later on two heroes actually have a decent chance of steamrolling critters and completing objectives anyway, then maybe it would be more satisfying to see them gradually tip the tables.
