Noob questions

By Dimnos, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Ok i tried to search the forums but it kept telling me I had to be more specific. I also read over the first 5 pages of posted topics and couldnt find what I was looking for so if this has been asked before, and Im sure it has, Im sorry and a simple link to the thread would be a great help.

My group just recently started playing this week. We have only done the intro and then the heroes moved on to the Cardinals Plight (I think is what the quest is called) and we had a few questions about gameplay not specific to that quest.

1) Hero defeat…. When the OL defeats or knocks out a hero, does he really only loose one turn and then get fully healed? By the 2nd encounter of the Cardinals Plight the heroes decided that being killed wasnt a big deal and would just charge in swords swinging with the mindset of "If we die, oh well, its only one turn and I get fully healed.". Yeah the OL gets to draw a card but is that really the only drawback for heroes when they are defeated?

2) Specifically about the Cardinals Plight now… Can the OL zombies attack the cardinal before the heroes open the door? The OL managed to get 3 zombies out in encounter one so he had 4 to attack the cardinal with in encounter two. The OL managed to drop the cardinal about the same time the heroes found the key. The heroes felt they were gimped in this encounter and didnt even have a chance. Common since says they should have done better in encounter one but really they stormed through it rather quickly. Im not sure how they could have done it any quicker and it appears the only way fewer zombies would have exited would be dependent on the OL just having bad luck on rolls when raising them. Is this correct?

Like Robin said drawing a new OL card is an serious advantage but no the heroes do NOT get full hp and stamina back when reviving. As according to page 10 of the rules the hero rolls 2 red power dice when being revived or standing up himself and heals damage equal to the hearts rolled + removes fatigue tokens equal to surges rolled.

As stated above heroes do NOT get full recovery after a knock down. And, yes, the zombies attack the Cardinal every turn. The trick on that level for the heroes is speed - even ignoring monsters until the cardinal is free to move. Keep in mind two things in that encounter: the heroes may heal the cardinal once per round via the shrine and the only monster that damages the cardinal are zombies.

10-4 Thank you guys. Thats what I missed in the book.
