Some pilots are versatile, and have been known to pilot different fighter classes during their careers. Probably the best example of this so far is Maarek Stele, who due to being a player avatar in TIE Fighter, demonstrates skill in several TIE variants as well as the larger Imperial assault craft.
Do we want to see returning characters as more ships are released? Who else would like to see Luke Skywalker as a Lambda -class shuttle pilot?
You could do that as a way to introduce some other options but it feels a little forced. The best example I can think of is Chewie as the falcon co-pilot and a Lambda shuttle pilot.
Well, they certainly left the possibility open. They restricted uniqueness to the same card name, so the same pilot name in different vessels would make the cards mutually exclusive.
I wouldn't have a problem with them exploiting that fact.

Each Ship Card has a box with the name of the pilot (i.e. Luke Skywalker) and another box with the Ship Type (i.e. X-wing). In this case, Luke is in an X-wing. If they wanted to put Luke in a Stealth X, the Ship Card would still have Luke Skywalker with a unique dot next to it in one box, and the second box would have Stealth X in it showing that he was piloting a Stealth X. The uniqueness refers to the pilot and not the whole card. Therefore they could make multiple Ship Cards with Luke Skywalker as the pilot and not have to worry about people trying to field Luke in two different ships.

In the same vein, they could put "Millenniun Falcon" as the ship type for both Han and Lando's ship card with a unique dot next to the ship name. Then you could only have one Millennium Falcon out at a time. I like this idea, but I don't think it will happen because, if the current trend is to be followed, the ship name will have to be YT-1300 Corellian Transport instead of Millennium Falcon.

No, there's already precedent for having different names in the same package for 1 miniature.
The TIE Advanced is the "TIE Advanced x1" on Darth Vader's card, But simply "TIE Advanced" on the other three cards.
Having the unique icon on the ship for the Millennium Falcon and Slave-1 is a great idea.
There is no reason that they wouldn't put a dot next to Millenniun Falcon. The ship name may even be "Millenniun Falcon (YT-1300)" with a dot.
