"Official Unofficial War of the World's Warmup" - DC, Oct 6th, BE THERE! OH YEAH!!!!!!

By dcdennis, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

When: Saturday October 6th - (Columbus Day weekend)

Where: Labyrinth Games
What: aGoT Tourney
Restrictions: NONE - This is now a standard rules/format tourney w/ 4 rounds of swiss, (5 rounds if 20+ attend)
Schwag: Sansa prize of latest CP, everything else will be chopped up into gift cards for top 4 for the FLGS.

Entry Fee: $10

Format: Joust only for the tourney. Melee/Pickup games and drunk draft to happen afterwards at a location TBD.

Start Time: 11am SHARP. We need every second to get all swiss rounds in before the store closes up at 7. I will be a clock nazi on start and end of rounds, so if you can't be on time, don't expect to play, no exceptions. Please plan to arrive 10:15 or earlier to prep yourself and get registered.

Some free lodging is available to those who wish to come in from out of town on a first request first serve basis.

Contact me via email with any questions you may have (dennis dot harrison dot jr at gmail dot com).

Hope you all can make it!

NOTE: This tourney is taking place of the No-Agenda tourney due to popular demand for a world's warmup tourney.

Card Legality: If it is in stores, it will be legal. I will make sure FLGS has several of the newest CPs in stock on game day.

I'll be there (and at Worlds most likely)

Not that there needs to be another reason to attend, but there will be punch and pie as well.

I just realized that I'm out of town that weekend, which really stinks

I'll take his place…with my fist. (Will be there.)

Well I'll be visiting my girlfriend and running the Tyler Marathon. I probably have a better chance of winning the marathon than I do the warmup tournament anyway.

please email me if you plan on needing the 5th CP to be available for purchase on the day of the tourney. FLGS usually does not stock them but I will have her preorder a set amount for tourney prizes and for others to purchase if they need it. She does 20% of so it's usually only $13. Remember, if the pack is in stores, it will be legal for the tourney, so plan accordingly.

GJ Winter Val wins vs Stark winter in finals

I'd be curious to know what plots the Targ HH player was running - without a restricted card, what got chosen over Fury and S&D?

Vaapad: I was running Threat from the North, The First Snow of Winter, Rule by Decree, Valar Morghulis, Retaliation!, Regroup, and Loyalty Money Can Buy.

Besides a few of them, I would certainly understand swapping Fury or S&D instead. Based on playtesting and recommendations from those who know Targ better than myself, I just found that Fury and S&D did not fit as well for me. Had I known that I would face GJ winter twice, perhaps Fury would have been worth stronger consideration. ;)

Thanks to everyone who showed up at the event! Glad that we had a decent local turnout and I was very impressed with what those who had to travel were willing to go through just to attend.

Dan 2.0: I was happy that I got saved by the clock, but wish we could have played it out.

Derek: You outplayed me to a pretty incredible degree. =)

Wilson: Solid play throughout the night, as I am sure you know. Both games were great, even if they did end badly for me. ;)

Steven: I believe you said you were playing a "fun" deck, but it certainly had me worried throughout the match.

Dennis: Poor Red Viper. ;)

Jarrin: Bara-Wildlings…crushed my poor Targ. =)

Dennis: Excellent job running it!

Patrick: Well done on piloting a GJ deck I put together for you better than I could have done so myself.

Kyle and Morgan: Sorry that I could not stick around longer afterwards, but it was great seeing you guys again!

All in all, another excellent example of why the people make this game.

you are my friend, but yesterday i would have been very happy if you died in a targaryen fire =D (kidding of course, that mistake will sting for a few days).

You made me feel like I was going to win. Then a certain location of yours made me lose. Fun game though. I'll need to figure out something more 'fun' for worlds.

I had a great time and really loved to meet all of you. You are all gentlemen and scholars it was a blast for my first in person tournament.

I'm looking forward to the next time!

As always it was a fun day. Seems like Erick has finally mastered the ability to beat 'most' of the central, pa crew. Still 2 Central, PA in the top 8, 1 in the top 4, I suppose that will do.

~Have to let the DC guys win sometimes or they wont invite us back…

In all seriousness, the best part of these tournaments(~other than beating dennis) is that each time there are new faces in the crowd. Seems like every time more and more players are getting into the game, and as per normal everyone is always trying to help and make the game more fun. Some of us do get serious for tournaments no matter how big or small, but its nice that we still have a blast and can joke around even during matches. And after the tourny there were multiple people sitting down taking time to help other players with their decks!

Erick whooped my ass with Stark winter, and I didn't even let him make it winter! :-)

From my experience the only time Stark Winter really needs to even worry about the season is against a summer deck or a maester deck(so Meera can blank the maester and app. colar.) Otherwise its just a good stark deck that has a few benefits from it being winter. I like the deck, just can't deal with the limited draw options.
