Hey everybody, I have decided to purchase the core set, and I was wondering what expansions(if any) I should purchase with it. I don't wanna buy an expansion that will tilt the balance of the core set too much. I also don't want to buy all of the major expansions at once. I don't really plan on playing this game competitively. I'd rather have a collection of decks that I can play with my friends. With so many different expansions out there, I don't know where to start. Thanks for any help.
New Player seeking advice
At the top of the Forum there is a thread titled "New Players Welcome", you should be able to find the information your lookin for in there
ya this question gets inevitably asked once a month and unfortunately there is no right answer. the best bet is to search around the entire cardpool on either agotcards.org or cardgamedb.com, get a feel for the type of build you want to go for (Lanni Kneel, Stark Murder, Greyjoy cancel etc….), build a sample deck on one of the sites, then buy your packs from there (the sites will tell you which pack the cards came in).
If you are just going to be playing with friends, start with your core set, play until everyone is extremely comfortable with the game mechanics and the core set cards, and then add to your card pool by purchasing the chapter packs and expansions in the order in which they were originally released .
This should help keep your decks relatively balanced against one another, and also give you a nice feel for how the game has developed over time.
My lack of patience got the better of me. Thanks to everyone who responded, but i ordered the core set and every deluxe expansion except for the Princes of the Sun. I should have all five boxes by the end of the week. Thanks for the help guys.
I would, although you will have access to the expansions, just play with the core decks until you gain familiarity with the cards and the game mechanics, etc. Once you have gotten the maximum mileage out of the core set, and are adept with respect to game rules, then start adding to the decks and building new decks.
well now that you have the 4 main box expansions your in really good shape, it should make playing Baratheon, Stark, Targaryen and Lannister very interesting for you and your friends because now you can build completely different decks and have a very large plot pool to really change up the game good purchase
Yeah guys I'm really excited about this game. I should have everything in by next Tuesday. Thanks to all for the advice and I apologize to everyone for not posting this in the new player forum. Regardless, everyone has been a huge help and I shall see you guys later. I'm sure I'll be cruising these forums regularly.
