Navis Primer Release Date

By Regis Eisen, in Rogue Trader

If anyone is undecided about getting this book: DO SO NOW.

The warp travel rules alone justify buying this book.

Does the Null package prevent a Footfallen character from using Psyniscience? We have someone that want's to play a Footfallen with Unnatural Origins (Tainted by the Warp) that goes on to hunt psykers and possibly even daemons. The Null might be perfect for that, but I don't want to later find out it's going to block out using Psyniscience.

I can't imagine that the Nulls can also be psykers. Everything in the fluff suggests that it's mutually exclusive. To be a Null your psyker you have to be somewhere below Sigma in assignment, while psykers have to be somewhere above Omicron.

If you can "become" a Null and still have Psychic Powers of any kind, that's a massive oversight on part of the writers, I'd think.

I thought that the psyniscience skill requires a Psy rating?

God **** this backspace thing! Ate my post six times!

The forum software is really, really, terrible.

Anyway, as I got out of bed and onto the forums and read my preceding post, I now realize that I for some reason got it into my head that Unnatural Origin: Tainted by the Warp was in fact Witch-Born: Perilous Choice .

Psyniscience doesn't require a Psy-rating to get, so it is probably possible; I would still argue that you shouldn't be able to use Psyniscience as a Null, though. So even though I completely messed up my point, it still stands. Nulls go into negatives on the Psychic Assignment, whereas, if anything, anyone with Psyniscience has at the very least a heightened connection to the warp, not a lessened.

Edit:

The counter-argument would be that someone with a total lack of creative talent (an art-Null) could still find a place as an art critic. Inability to create/work the medium doesn't necessarily preclude observing and interpreting it.

Doesn't quite fit. A Null isn't just lacking in personal ability to interact with the warp - his presence actively interferes with it in his immediate vicinity. It's akin to taping a pair of binoculars to a smoke machine - you might be able to see further away with the binoculars, were it not for all the smoke.

When is the Navis Primer coming out anyways?? It's already out overseas but hasn't been released yet here. And I must say, that is total and complete B******T! I've already seen it on ebay for sale from Australia and UK but seriously, not here?!? WTF! FFG is in Minnesota for gods sake! :P

Wish they'd give us some word on the digital release, at least.

That won't happen until some time after the physical copy is officially released in the USA, so expect that to be awhile out still. Almost a month since European purchases started and still nothing being said and not even any real preview materials. Odd.

The news now says to expect this out in two weeks. Assuming that it hits this deadline, that will only be about six weeks after it's been available in Europe.

I have had this book for a couple of weeks now, and I find it more useful than I had initially anticipated - a good buy imo.

I was wondering why there was a preview for a book that had been out for ages…

Any one else notice that the "Made Fer Fightin" rule for orks have Brutal Charge trait included but it isn't in the Into the Storm version of the rule?

Did Brutal Charge even exist by Into the Storm?

It is on the rank 1 Ork Freebooter chart for 500xp.

My FLGS just called to to tell me my copy is waiting for me. Nice to see it's finally showing up in the USA.

Can someone explain the warp travel rules? Like, are they supposed to completely replace the core completely? Step 3 is pretty confusing- it refers to the core then gives a completely different test, then makes a reference to the core again.

Completely new ruleset, I'm certain

I like it more than core. It's more flavourful, more dangerous.

^Oh boy did I scew that one up

Heh, alright- I was just confused why Part 3 mentioned a -20 to awareness tests if the Psyniscience test was supposed to replace it. Like the rest of the book, but will probably stick to the Core; Navigation is already a bit 'decker syndrome' and the new rules take it even further.

Totally agree on the "decker syndrome" comment. With our group, we don't have a PC navigator anyway, so most of this would be done behind the screen anyway. I do think the various mishap charts are better than the core, though, so maybe a hybrid system would be useful.

In my case, it did not take significantly longer with the new method for my group, but in turn it was way funnier. When you get lost twice on your way to Footfall, hilarity ensues.

Well, different strokes and all. I agree that extra mishaps are cool at any rate, for that little extra spice of chaos (capitalisation optional)!
