Question re: figures and bases

By fattyrupert, in Tide of Iron

Hi, I just got the main game yesterday and it looks awesome. I seem to be having trouble with the figures and bases. They are very hard (some of them) to put into the bases and once in they are even harder to remove, which naturally you need to do often during the game. Has anyone got any ideas or suggestions as to how to make this easier for me please.

Thankyou.

Not an uncommon issue (though I had no problems with it myself). You might want to have a look at the discussions regarding this problem that came up on the Geek , e. g. this or this . I'd recommend to be careful with drilling the holes, too much and they're too loose...

Yes, be very careful if you decide to drill out the bases. I had a few that wound up too loose, using the wrong size bit. llorando.gif I finally wound up using a 5/64 bit, which seemed to be just perfect. However, I would highly recommend proceeding carefully if you decide to do that., testing as you go. If you don't open up the bases though, you may find that the "pegs" on the bottom of the figures can be broken off in the bases if you're not careful taking them out of the bases.

Hi!

I modified my figures and Bases with small magnets (diameter 3mm, height 1mm)

I like the sound of the magnets :) have you a link to some pics please and what kind of cost is it? Also, where would someone get those magnets?

Cheers

Hi!

Here is the link to the magnets

http://www.supermagnete.de/magnets.php?article_id=S-03-01-N#S-03-01-N

I bought it in this online store.

The disadvantage of magnets are the costs. To modify the starter box are nearly the same costs as the starter box of TOI (you need ~500 pieces)

I will try to make some pictures of my modification in the next view days and post it.

Greetings

The issue, I found, was not the entire hole in the base, but rather just the top of it. I had success with a screwdriver for glasses. I put it in the hole and then just twisted it a litle at the top of the hole. This seemed to open it up so that the units could fit in easy and still snap when they were locked into place. I was very reluctant to modify the game as shipped, but I was more afraid of breaking the "pins" off the bottom of the units so I looked for a compromise.

I followed the directions on the Geek with my pin vise and drill bit drilling up from the bottom and the figures are perfect. Only time will tell if this will ultimately become too weak but so far two thumbs up.
