Upcoming Tournaments / Netrunner games

By neuro8, in Android: Netrunner The Card Game

This is my first introduction to FFG, and I bought my set at GenCon and didn't realize there was a Tourney (although it appears it was already sold-out).

Are there any upcoming Tournaments or games being held anywhere or listed online? I'm in the NY area and hoping to play with someone other than coerced fiance's and co-workers.

What an entrance! Your first venture into FFG land and you manage to pick up one of the few copies of one of the most eagerly awaited games ever. So jealous…

I had already contacted FFG about this, and they said there were no plans to have any organized play up and running upon launch, but to keep checking the site for updates. However, I imagine if you wanted to organize your own unofficial tournament, like I'm hoping to, you could easily do that. The tournament rules are posted on the support page already.

In preparation, I would highly recommend finding a game store that is going to be carrying the game and work out with them to have some sort of regular weekly demo day/night for the weeks leading up to release. That way, you can build up an interested player base for when the game finally releases.

That was going to be my plan, but my boys that went to GenCon failed to snag a copy before it disappeared from FFG's booth, and I'm not going to pay the ridiculous prices on ebay just to get an advanced copy. Still, I figure between the time of release and the time that organized play is up and running, I'll have enough time to build up a decent-sized player base, so all is not lost.

Great advice! I'll try reaching out to local game stores, and see if they're planning anything. Haven't seen many posts in the NYC area so hoping more people show up.

Thanks Metropolis. I've been a big fan of Netrunner since 10+ years ago when it first came out; I showed it to all my MTG friends, and tried to get them to play it. I still have my original decks. I was a big fan of it, but no one else was interested… started playing online with MCG and LackeyCCG but wasn't completely the same.

Funny story: when I heard it was coming back in GenCon, I arrived Thursday @ noon, but it was already sold out within an hour. So I came back Saturday morning, when one of the reps on the floor mentioned that the advance copies had sold out, but they were sending a shipment in by "slow boat from China" to be driven all night for delivery the next morning. Long-shot, but for a chance at Netrunner, totally worth it.

The rush was insane when the doors opened, mad dash by dozens of people aiming for FFG, line for FFG went around several areas of convention floor, floor reps were "traffic cops", and they had to surround the boxes by security, which were in a pile (?!?!) since people were running in and grabbing them, until they stopped it and it had to be requested while at checkout.

I don't think I've ever stood in line and sweated that long for a chance at anything. Got the game though, and it's been great. Wish I bought two but I felt more people should have the chance to play (I'll get that second set later).

Totally worth it.

FFG's organized play is not like other card games at the local level. They release kits that are available for purchase that can be used to run a month long event with various prizes. Some examples from the other LCG's can be seen here: http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp?eidn=3442 .The kits are the same for an entire quarter of the year. They are $17.00 US per kit.

I did see this also:

Furthermore, Game Night Kits for Android: Netrunner The Card Game, The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game, and X-Wing™ are currently in development and will be made available later this year. Stay tuned to the FFG Organized Play website for the latest updates.
