2 players, 3 players, 4 players…..5?

By hoduken, in Strategy and deck-building

I have been having a blast with the game. i primarily have been playing 4 player games but have been doing 2 player games too. I had a couple questions regarding opinions.

1. Do you guys think that 4 players makes the game harder or easier? On the passage through mirkwood we blazed through it with 2 but have yet to beat it with 4. just wondering what people think about this.

2. is a 5th player possible? does this ruin the game balance wise. has anyone tried this? We have 3 sets of every set and could easily do 5 players. Also we have well over 4 wanting to play at the same time. Just wondering if there is anything i should look out for when adding another player.

3. Does everyone follow the unique rule in regards to heroes with the same name but different art in other player's decks? With 4 players we find that most players…mainly the females want female heroes to play with but there is only 3 in the whole game. does breaking this rule lead to any major complications?

just wanted some opinions. thanks guys.

1. Most quests are slightly easier with more players, I almost completely play with 3 and sometimes 4. However, by doing this you can do so many unique and cool combinations and strategies that you can't do in single player, which is why we find it more fun to play with more people.

2. 5 players would work for all but 1 quest i can think of, and that is Foundations of Stone as at one point each player gets their own quest card and is split up from everyone else. Since there are only 4 quest cards, this would cause and issue with more than 4 players. However, I do feel in general MOST quests would be almost infinately easier with 5+ people.

3. We do follow the regular unique card rule, mainly just to limit the use of some of the REALLY good heroes. Other than possibly making the game a lot easier than intended though, this (in my opinion) would not drastically effect the game play and if that is what it takes for your group to have fun then by all means do it.

Hope this helps and glad you are enjoying this game. Between the art and the thematics this is by far the best card game I have ever played (which really isn't that many to be honest) and has kept me engaged since the core set first came out.

Thanks for the reply. And yes, i am enjoying the game too. I just wish it had more female Characters……

In the first cycle yes more players more easy but second cycle is different story. For example RHG is much more difficult with more players and Long Dark is crazy difficult with 3 or 4 players. But Shadow and Flame is going to be more easy with more players. MAO is really difficult wit 4 players we still cannot manage it with 4 players. Is really depend on the quest.

That's really nice to hear. When i got this game i was concerned it was going to be too easy. Glad to hear that it can be a challenge. More often than not coop games are too easy and loose their appeal upon completion.
