Big dispute regarding strength and craft trophies

By markd315, in Talisman Rules Questions

At forest you are attacked by an enemy with strength IV occasionally, and at crags, you can be attacked by an enemy with craft IV.

When defeated, do you somehow add 4 strength or 4 craft to your total trophy points? I am wondering, because in our current game, I have killed 3 of these enemies at forest, and 1 at crags. I would have 2 higher strength and one higher craft if this were possible which would really help. Hope someone can clear this up.

On an unrelated note, and as you may be able to tell, we are all very new (and probably bad) at this game (we bought it earlier today, and played for 4 hours…) So that's why we are still in the outer region after all this time, but according to the rules, it's rated to take approximately 90 minutes. Does this seem like a highly low number to anyone else?

1st question: I've read on here that you do NOT take a trophy if you encounter a non-card enemy. in other words if there is no card, there's no trophy if you win. Same thing goes for the sentinel lord of darkness and Eagle king etc.

2nd question: this game is easily longer than 90 minutes, i would say more like 4 hours. and if you are using all the expansions, get ready for an all day game. It's fun though don't get me wrong, but prepare to spend lots of time on this game.

Welcome new players! I myself began playing with the 2nd edition, starting in the early '80s or so.

I can't add to Halfling's comments on the trophy situation, but I can tell you that

I've never played a 90 minute game! Yes, games may last an afternoon into the evening, or you finish one and manage to get another in between maybe 3pm and Midnight? Sheesh, but its fun!

Fights you encounter at Crags and Forest are NOT Enemies, which are Adventure cards with the "Enemy" keyword (p. 10), but instead creatures. And you can only get trophies from Enemies: "When a character kills an Enemy, he may take it as a trophy." (p. 14)

For game length, 90 minutes is pretty much accurate for us (3-player). Average duration was probably more around 75 minutes before adding Blood Moon, but since we now run random endings and the odds of getting a fight ending are 1/3, most of the time you grind until you have your fight stat at 15 during a fight, then go to the Crown. Playing with the vanilla CoC ending, you only really need your main stat (one you'll use on the Inner Region) at 9+ and a Talisman -> Inner Region.

You don't get trophy points in this edition of talisman if you defeat creatures on the boards.

However, this has been change in the third edition of talisman, because it use the experience points system:)
