Can anyone clarify the order of events here?

We played that the sorcerer needs to show his card face up first and then he has the option to switch cards once the Oracle made his selection...

That is correct. Oracle gets to see the card, but doesn't know if Sorcerer will switch them. The can be switched before being revealed.
