What will the final product line look like? Let the speculation begin!

By GoblynKing, in Star Wars: Edge of the Empire Beta

So, when this first core set finally drops, what do you think the physical product will look like? Will it be another, slightly thicker, perfect bound soft cover like the Beta? Will it be a large hardcover, with dice sold separately? Or will it come in some sort of box or slip-case (ala The One Ring) with the dice included?

Anyone think that FFG might roll out POD accessories for those that crave cards to represent things like Talents, gear, and the like?

Another option could be the boxed set with a character pad, dice, book, and GM screen. Not unlike the recent Second City box by AEG or Paizo's Beginer Box.

I say they should make a hardcover (dice in slipcase or separate, slipcase obviously nicer) and…

…a Collector's Edition with book and goodies packed in Millenium Falcon cargo crate or a very special black slab-of-carbonite-shaped box!

(Dear FFG, please feel free to use that idea, provided I get a free copy in exchange) :D

I hope they don't go the box set route - I'd much prefer to just have to buy the books. Not sure why, but box sets have always put me off. :S

DUDE!! I'd love to see the carbonite box/slipcover, but I really want to make sure customers can peruse the book before they buy. If there's one thing I hate about a boxed set… $#!+ like that frustrates me more than I normally allow myself.

How does the Warhammer Fantasy RPG come? I will almost guarantee it will be the same.

I hope for the One Ring approach myself, the slipcase gives a great combo between boxed set goodies and fitting well on the shelf.

WHFRP3e had TONS of components: cards, dice, 20-30+ career sheets, 4 books (player book, arcane magic, divine magic, GM book), boxes to hold the cards… character standees like Arkham Horror, puzzle-piece reckless/cautious meters, skull tokens, triangle tokens… TONS of cards, btw.

It looks like SW: EotE will be a book, and might come with the dice, or might leave that option open for the purchaser. But I feel a corebook should come with "everything you need," except for imagination and awesome players, pens and paper. Or dice, unless the situation warrants, and I think this warrants. BUT they got a fair amount of flak last time, with WHFRP3e, so I think the book need to be presentable and open to inspection, or they might lose out on some grumbly customers and grognards. I really don't mean to use those words with any amount of disrespect or malign intent, btw.

Oh god. Please don't make me buy another FFG Collector's Edition. They are too gorgeous not to! :(

I'm betting this will be a boxed set. The reason being, there's not a good way to let someone look at the book, without the possibility of someone stealing the dice. Or doing a crazy style box - which adds to the cost.

Having the rules to use standard dice instead of the custom ones should be something that is relegated to the Beta - simply because the dice don't exist yet. I bet when the game is released, the beta sticker sheet disappears from the website. It's marketing, plain and simple. You want more dice? We sell them from the website.

That being said, I don't think the box set will be as big as the WFRP one, since there seems to be a whole lot less in terms of fiddly bits. But, the price will probably be the same. This is mainly because of the Star Wars License.

What I'm hoping we get in the book is a player book and a GM book. All the rules and player stuff in the one book, but the GM book is full of how to run a game, build organizations, planets, etc, as well as all the Opponents/beasties the characters will fight.

As to people being able to look at the books.. well, this is Star Wars. That means many will buy it sight unseen.

I'm thinking that FF will either go with the above option or a hardcover slipcase containing two books and a set of dice (ala The One Ring).

Fair enough… but I would like to point out, just because this beta is in a single book, it does not mean the final version will or what else might be included. Most likely will be a single book though I imagine.

I hope they go the book route, as that is non VAT-able …

If they stick it in a box we in the UK will be paying 20% extra for the privilage….. sad.gif

I'm hoping that all three books will have the option of hard-back: I'm on the move a lot, and having a soft back with me means that it'll only end up damaged in very short order. :(

Has anyone else noticed that many of the print elements in the beta book could easily be represented by tokens (light/dark side points, strain, etc) and/or cards (talents, specializations, wounds - ala WFRP, etc)?

I'm wondering if FF have already made up their mind about how the final product is going to look, or if they're using the feedback from the beta test to gauge what people want (more/less bits and pieces)? The lack of an offical thread to dicuss such things leads me to assume that the former is true, and the look of the final product has already been decided upon.

I'd imagine the final look is set in stone now, but I believe that one of the FFG guys at Gencon said there wouldn't be any fiddly tokens or the like.
