X-Wing Championship Finals - Full Video!

By zachbunn, in X-Wing

We posted an interview with a finalist from the X-Wing Championships at GenCon 2012 a few days ago and today we were able to get the final game online! You can catch the full finals as well as various interviews here . Also, a big shout out to this great community. A lot of you have said some very kind things about our video coverage and even started placing your X-Wing pre-orders with us as a way of saying thanks for our videos. I can't say thanks enough back. It's absolutely our privilege. Many more videos to come!

Thanks so much for getting this filmed! I cannot wait to make some time to watch the whole thing. By the way, the production value is great.

I wish Jeff hadn't forgotten that second cluster missile attack. The game would have been totally different with Vader in the mix. Rory charged his X-Wings in the hole left by Vader in Jeff's line but doing so wrecked his combat phase. It was a lesson well-learned with Rory gladly taking stress over the next two movement phases to avoid clumping and keep the TIEs in his sights. There were a couple of times when I thought Jeff's movement was brilliant but he just didn't get the follow up on the dice during his shooting in those cases.

Very fun to watch.

I, however, find it a bit troublesome that the Alliance player would deny Backstabber the additional attack dice (which is a static ability) because he had already rolled his defense dice and then in the same turn choose to spend Garven's Focus (an optional ability) well after his opponent had rolled his own defense dice.

If you are going to hold your opponent to the strict letter of the rules, in a brand new game, not doing the same is pretty suspect.

It is a new game and thus there are going to be a lot of mistakes, but knowing that people should probably be a bit more forgiving until their own play is up to the standard they are expecting from others

I wouldn't be too harsh on them. Plus, from the interview with Rory they seem to be pretty well acquainted. I think he said they bought the game together and actually practiced against each other for four hours the night before the tournament.

totally awesome to see the game played. I agree that its a shame that some nuances were missed, but I'm most saddened that we didnt get to see that last lonely ship get blown out of the nothingness!

Rules mastery is just something that comes with time. I can't be too mad at anyone getting something wrong within 24 hours of the game getting released.

I would love to see a game with fresh players though, as there was more than a handful of times where a barrel roll would have taken the TIE's out of the X-Wing's firing arcs, and instead the Imp player focused.

Oh, and yeah, totally not hating on the players. It was great to see the game in action, and I can totally understand the situation they were in.
