Deck vs. Driver Poll

By mdc273, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

Survey question!

Let's say drivers and decks are measured on a scale from 1 - 10, 10 being the highest, 1 being the lowest. What's the concensus on these situations?

1) How often will a 10 driver with a 1 deck beat a 1 driver with a 10 deck?

2) How often will a 10 driver with a 1 deck beat a 5 driver with a 6 deck?

3) How often will a 10 driver with a 5 deck beat a 5 driver with a 10 deck?

4) How often will a 10 driver with a 5 deck beat a 7 driver with an 8 deck?

5) How often will a 10 driver with an 8 deck beat an 8 driver with a 10 deck?

6) How often will a 10 driver with an 8 deck beat an 9 driver with a 9 deck?

isnt there a 2 page thread on this on topic on the front page?

There's always the long proposed "car and driver" tournament that, to my knowledge, has never actually been played.

Every participant brings a deck, including a basic description of what the deck is supposed to do. Players swap decks between rounds, never playing the same deck twice in the event. Maintain win/loss records for both players and decks.

If "car" matters more than "driver," you'd expect decks to tend to win (and have a better tourney record), no matter who played them. If "driver" matters more than "car," you'd expect players to tend to win (and have a better tourney record), no matter what deck they were playing. If both player and deck run in the 50/50 range of the record, it's probably abuot equal emphasis.

A "round robin" format would probably tell you more than swiss pairing in such a structure (since swiss pairing will force an X-0 record).

It's a regular feature at Stahleck (the European championship) as a side event. I also remember participating in one in a shop tourney.

Stahleck too OP! Needs restricted!

We will be playing a very similar tournament format at CaliCon in October!

"· For this special themed event, each player will submit a sleeved, boxed, standard constructed Joust deck in the House of their choice.

· During 3-4 rounds of swiss pairing, players will be given a random deck from the pool for each round. In addition to doing battle with your opponent, after each round players will rate the deck that they played with.

· We will cut to top 2 after the swiss rounds. The players in the final round will be given the top rated decks from the entire event.

· Players may take up to 5 minutes to look through their assigned deck before the initial shuffle. Also, players may include a brief description of the general strategy of their deck within the box itself. All deck boxes must be labeled with the owner’s name."
