questions about "a gate and a monster appear" encounters

By Shad0wdrag0n, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

When an Arkham encounter says that a gate and a monster appear does that add a token to the Doom Track?

Does the investigator fight/evade the monster before getting pulled into the gate? Do the monsters stay on the board after the encounter is resolved?

Does an investigator have an Other Worlds encounter on the same turn he/she is pulled through a gate in the Arkham encounter phase?

Is an investigator delayed when pulled through a gate that opens during the Arkham encounter phase?

Let's see. Yes a token is added to the doom track. No, you don't have to deal with the monster. Yes the monsters stay on the board after the encounter is resolved. (But only with a gate and a monster appear. If you just encounter a monster and you evade it, it goes away.)

Yes, an investigator has an Other Worlds encounter on the same turn, and yes an investigator is delayed. That does mean three other world encounters, but that's the luck of the draw in that case.

For all purposes, as johnwatersfan pointed out, it's exactly like a gate opening on you during the Mythos phase. The only real different consequence is the extra Other World Encounter.

There is at least one encounter that merely says, "a gate appears" without including the text about monsters. I think this was just an oversight, and that it was supposed to say or imply that a monster comes out, like with every other open gate. ColtsFan thinks that it is as written; just like a normal gate, but no monster.

In the rare instance that you get an encounter like that, rest assured that there is currently no official interpretation of the text ;)
