Creating Chaos Artifacts

By SonofDorn, in Deathwatch Gamemasters

Hello all,

I'm currently GMing a campaign in Deathwatch where I've introduced a plot hook in the form of a Chaos Artifact, but I'd like to know if there are any hard and fast rules for creating them and if so, where I could find them at. I'd really like to get the Relictor Librarian into a bit of trouble demonio.gif

Well, Black Crusade has rules for Daemon Weapons.

Use your mind to create it, you don't need rules.

As GM you know what you need for your story, so make it and if in need of advise publish here your idea and discuss it with us.

More, an artifact? What kind?

Weapon?

Vehicule?

Book?

Medal and amulet?

"Natural" (or not ) crystal, gem,…?

Massive core cogitator with a truck size?

If you're looking for some more hard rules to steal you may want to check out some other resources as inspiration.

Black Crusade has been mentioned.

Dark Heresy: The Radicals Handbook and Daemon Hunter have rules on Daemonic Weapons and Daemonic Gifts which may get the juices flowing.

3.X Open Gaming easily poked around in at www.d20srd.org has some artifacts which are pretty weak by 40k standards, but if you're familiar with OGL then you can get a feel for relative power perhaps.

I agree with the above poster, however, that unless its falling into the PCs hands and they intend to use it the artifact is more of a narrative tool for you is it not?

I have an idea of what the item is (it's a necklace with a jawbreaker sized orb attached to it). I want the Librarian to be able to use it, but I wanted to see if there were rules in place for the creation of such items.

As a narrative piece, it's already done its job well. I had introduced the item during the Final Sanction adventure, placing it amongst Inquisitor Kalistradi's possessions in one of the many safehouses she had. The Librarian pocketed the necklace, after having read about it being of Chaos (but never mentioning what it did), and then promptly destroyed the datapad that made mention of it, not knowing that the Ultramarine Apothecary in his Kill Team saw all of this out of the corner of his eye, but never made mention of it.

Now the Librarian has some downtime and is trying to figure how to activate the item…and that's where I left off at.

I think your Libi is going to have some kind of problem if tempted like taht by the power of the dark side of the warp…

"Steal" a corupt piece of gear without even telling his squad mate I like it as a Gm, an Ultramarine watching it without being spot on the top of it is like the cherry on a cake.

You are going to have fun.

I don't know any rules exept those already point at in the post. But do what you need and let the squad walk on the rocky road to corruption.

Give a +x PR and / or extended range. Even maybe a peril of the warp save and once the Libi don't wait for it let the necklace give back all the corruption it has take when protecting the psyker.

Bye and see you around for some news about it.
