North American Championships

By Gardine, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

Um, they took place on friday didn't they? In the gencon video for day three the champ was shown for quarter a second (that was all about invasion in all four videos…).

Is there any participant who wants to tell anything about the event? I'm wondering if your championships were so unimportant and small?

There were 16 people total playing. Adam Daulton won the tournament with a chaos Call the Brayherd deck.

Top 4 consisted of the following:

Chaos - Brayherd deck
Empire - Warrior deck(me)
Dark Elf - Hand maniplation
Dark Elf - Mill

I really want to go to the world tournament. I'm trying to get some friends together to share a hotel. Hope there will be more people there.

Yeah, not too surprising. There were only 25 last year when GC was still the only big tourney of the year.

Would still be cool to see decklists and such if anybody has them. Didn't realize how much Brayherd fodder Chaos has gotten recently! But I have been a bit out of the loop…

I hope that they space out the Worlds events such that Invasion isn't competing with Thrones and NetRunner. I would probably rather play Invasion than NetRunner with the one or two packs that will be out at that point, but I imagine it will draw many more people. If I can play both I will make getting there a priority.

Here is the deck I came in 2nd with

Empire:

Units: 25
3 X Veteran Sellswords
3 X Peasant Militia
3 X Huntsmen
3 X Imperial Drummer
3 X Van Klumpf's Buccaneers
2 X Stirland Deathjacks
3 X Averheim Soldiers
2 X Zealot Hunter
3 X Veteran Greatsword

Supports: 14
3 X Knight Training
3 X The Imperial Zoo
3 X Derricksburg Forge
2 X Runefang of Solland
3 X Church of Sigmar

Tactics: 11
3 x Long Winter
3 X Iron Discipline
3 X Called Back
2 X Manaan Take You!

Ya, when I was watching this videos I thought the same thing. It's cool that they sold out of Netrunner and everything, but would it have killed them to give some details on this game? They mentioned that Tom Capor won Cthulhu again, but they didn't even mention if Timothy Lyons was even at GenCon. He won the past two GenCons, I think, and him being there and losing would have been a crazy story.

Congrats to all the winners, though. I heard it was a bunch of fun, maybe one day I'll make it to GenCon cool.gif .

16 players… Wtf man.

Yeah I was at Gen Con. Since it wasnt worlds I had some other events I wanted to play in that I hadnt be able to do the past couple of years. I'm planning to be at FFG in November.

very very very little people, sad news :-((( at Polish Nationals will probaly about 70 players this weekend

The saddest part is that 6 of the 16 were from Louisville and 3 from Indianapolis.

I'm jealous, I have Jealous Eyes.

So Vitamin T was there, lurking in the shadows… watching… waiting… playing other games…

I was there, but left my cards back at home ftl. Too bad sad.gif

Anyone bring any interesting HE decks?

I didn't see one HE deck, in fact the only thing I went up against were DE decks.

Here is a link to my tournament report on our meetup site.

Congrats to Adam and Steve! I placed fifth overall with a DE negative hp control deck. I'm the guy from Calgary, AB. It was really nice to meet everyone. :D

For what it is worth, here is the deck I played at the Gen Con tournament:

Units

Swarm of Bats x3

Crypt Ghouls x3

Wight Lord x3

Shades x3

Countess Iseara x2

Hag Queen x3

Vile Sorceress x3

Blood Dragon Knight x2

Walking Sacrifice x3

Seasoned Corsair x2

Mannfred Von Carstein x3

Support

Har Ganeth x2

Sorceress Convent x3

Slave Pen x3

Warpstone Excavation x3

Tactics

Danse Macabre x3

Sacrifice to Khaine x3

Blade wind x3

Gaze of Nagash x3

Quest

Offering to Hekarti x3

I made it to the final four with this deck. but did not make it further. Both times I lost to Steve's Empire deck, and both time the matches were extremely close.

I got 6th with my High Elf deck, which i was playing for fun (I was there for Game of Thrones). That is Top 8 in all GenCon's so far! :) My DE deck is probably more consistent, but not near as fun as HE. Basically a speed deck with a lot of control as well. I haven't really played since last years GenCon (Worlds at that point) when I got top 8. Got a pretty cool playmat that actually had a HE picture on it!

I am horrible with card names - the deck uses a lot of indirect damage (didn't think I would see a ton of Dwarf) with the 6/4 dragon (many times out 2nd turn) and the 3/3 guy with the tokens. HE has good control as well with the 1 cost spell that turns units into developments, and then I play 6X return to hand events as well (Banish and the Nuetral one). I misread/misunderstood the 1 cost tactic that lets you attack two different zones. I thought I then could attack one zone with my army, and then another - but it only let's you split your army on the same attack (which really sucks).

1st game I won 2-0 vs. a Dark Elf deck discard deck. I got the dragon out 2nd turn both times, I think with the location in both games as well. He couldn't keep units out, and both games went pretty fast. He did, however, get 3rd in aGoT so that was great for him.

2nd game my deck totally just blew up on me and I lost to a very similar Dark Elf deck discard deck from the one I beat handily. Both games I took a mulligan and in those 4 hands I never got a 2-cost location to start. I didn't draw an Innovation or the HE +1 resourse in any of the 4 either.

Last game was vs. a very good infinate combo deck, Empire I believe. I won 2-0, in both games I got our really fast, controlled his units and won easily. We played again for fun and he got the combo off and crushed me.

Overall pretty fun!
