My group is new to Arkham, having played less then 10 games. We managed 19 points in this scenario; I'm not sure how good (or mediocre) that is, please let me know
The key to us winning ended up being the encounter in the science building involving the dimensional transporter machine. Through the course of the game, it closed 3 gates (of the 10) for us. Not getting the gate trophey was a bummer, but the moral boost was good.
We also gave the ally to harvey, and he was great at killing monsters... until we got stuck with the environment that prevents spellcasting for a few turns.
We also got the rumor "good work undone" which in this scenario was a good one to block the rumor slot for a few turns until it popped.
The -3 horror rating all monsters had prevented us from keeping the monster population low, resulting in the terror track reaching 7 before the last gate was closed. The terror track hurt our score more then anything else.
The game did come down to the wire as far as the GOO waking up, the doom track was at 11 (of 12) when the tenth gate closed (with 2 or 3 remaining open on the board.)
Over all it was a good scenario, we may try another run at this chapter next game night.
