Okay then… how about the NEXT expansion?

Forgot to mention it. Don't you guys think bounty hunters should be available for any of the two factions not only the Empire? They are supposed to be "neutral" as they work for the one that offers them the job and money…

I agree. I thought this about SWTOR as well, but it didn't happen. Maybe FFG will make it work.

The X-wing and TIE fighters only have atmospheric combat capabilites in the EU. They are never shown to be able to fight in an atmosphere. X-wing take off and land from planets (well, usually moons) but they never open their s-foils.

If X-wings had atmospheric combat capabilities, then why didn't they use thgem against the AT-ATs in the Battle of Hoth. A couple of proton torpedoes per AT-AT could have stoped the Imperial advance in its tracks.

I would love to see an atmospheric game with speeders and AT-ATs and the like, but like with capital ships I think it should be its own game.

Just because they are not shown doing so in the movie, does not mean they did not have the capability. They presumably only had enough X-Wings to send two with each transport (news which provoked one of my favorite and oft quoted lines, "two x-wings against a star destroyer?"), plus Luke's. Otherwise one would assume they would have sent more with each transport. I mean no one is shown using the bathroom in any of the movies either, but I think since it is not stated that they didn't, one can assume they do. gran_risa.gif

Not to mention, Hoth was a remote base that they had prepared to evacuate. Maybe they didn't have a large number of X-Wings available there, or maybe they deemed them too valuable an asset to risk against overwhelming odds in a battle in which their entire goal was to execute a fighting withdrawl.

There is a video game of the Battle of Hoth that has Tie Fighters straffing ground targets and X-Wings flying cover and shooting them down. Granted it isn't movie-cannon, but it's licensed by Lucasfilm Ltd, so I would assume they approve.

Personally I'd love to see some bounty hunter ships. Maybe have greebo and Jabbas floating palace…. I m not sure it realistic or that it would work well… I just want to know that there's a rancor somewhere in one of my ships!

Yeah! I'd buy Mist Hunter and Hound's Tooth right away! But I'd probably be one of few. I think there are a few problems with the bounty hunter ships in this game.

1) Limited appeal. Not a whole lot of people want to buy every single bounty hunter ship, especially when you consider …

2) Each BH ship will be medium sized, so they will cost around $30 per ship.

3) Most people will only buy 1 of these ships, instead of multiples like the fighters. Granted, the two announced medium ships have the same issue, but they have a much broader appeal so will probably sell more.

4) Most people associate the BHs with the Empire, but adding them to the Imperial's team will unbalance the game as far as number of ships and if you make them Rebels, a lot of people will not like it because, as I said, many people think they're evil (even though we've pointed out on these forums that Zuckuss and 4-LOM actually work for the Rebellion at some point and Dengar and IG-88 are known to kill Imperial targets).

I'd still love to see them, and if FFG surprises me by releasing the BH ships, I'd get them, but I really wonder how they would change the game.

Here are some other OT possibilities (the ships are EU, but not the characters):

Hound's Tooth (Bossk's ship - a modified Corellian Engineering Corporation YV-666 light freighter)

Punishing One (Dengar's ship - a JumpMaster 5000)

IG-2000 (IG-88's ship - a modified Aggressor assault fighter)

Mist Hunter (Zuckuss' ship - a modified G-1A starfighter)

Lady Luck (Lando's ship - a SoroSuub Personal Luxury Yacht 3000)

4-LOM's ship (couldn't find the name or details)

These ships have all been produced by Hasbro's Titanium Series (except maybe 4-LOM's ship). That's got to indicate some modicum of fan appeal. Maybe they have a chance in this game. Who knows.

With all the OT love here I'm surprised at the complete lack of desire for the Cloud Car.

The Cloud Car is just atmospheric. I'm sure if they do expand to ground/atmospheric scenarios it would be included, right next to the snowspeeder.

4-LOM is partnered with Zuckuss so they share the same ship.

it did engage the Falcon, as did the Tie's on Bespin. Just pointing it out as they included Obsidian squadron, might not be that much of a far reach.

Lest hope they'll do that; the ground scenarios with some semi-terrestrial ships will give an interesting twist to the game..

It would also be interesting to see some accessories such as asteroids, space mines, and turrets…

Really, your surprised? First of all it is a high altitude skimmer, not a star fighter. Secondly, how do I put this gently, I'll just say it. The cloud car is pretty lame.

(please do not interpret this in any way as a suggestion that you are lame. I am sure you are a really cool guy (or possibly girl), but the cloud car--- not Lucas's best vehicle.)

Yep, the cloud car is the Volkswagon of SW vehicles, just a notch below the Landspeeder, I'll agree. I'm just quite surprised that no one brought it up, with all the speculation and vehement opposition to the possibility of Prequel based expansions.

(waves hands) Hey, I'M there for Prequel-based expansions. Nooo problems saying it. Gimme Aethersprites!

Second. Give me as many ships as you can, FFG!

Hmmm Anakin Skywalker in a Jedi starfighter vs Darth Vader in a Tie Advanced, interesting.

Truth-be-told, you can sign me up for prequel ships, too. There are plenty of fighters to choose from in that era, and many of them (including the Y-wing and Z-95 headhunter) are still hanging around on backwater worlds in the time period of the original trilogy.

Still, I'd like to see some repaints of the OT base ships with some new cards for diversity. As I said before, I'd love to field "red group" and "green group" X-wings and give them different targets/mission objectives for that extra sense of immersion.

Mmm, droid Tri-Fighter… mmm.

I am down with more ships. I think both EU and Prequals are fair game. I do think that Prequel ships should be a seperate game (with the same rules) so that tournaments can be X-Wing or Clone Wars, or mixed. The idea of adding prequel ships is what makes me think that enforcing Imp vs Rebel at tournaments won't work. I can see a day where there are Rebel, Republic, Old Republic, Empire, Seperatist, Sith Empire, Neutral, Vong (I kind of home not), and maybe other factions.

Thanks,

Duncan

I FINALLY got around to skimming the rules, and saw two snippets:

"… and other ships from the Star Wars universe." Well, that's open to interpretation. But then again:

X-Wing has two sides, Rebel vs Imperial (paraphrased).

Sooo… will they just expand the game, and it's factions? Will they make a new game, based on this rulesset? Will they not even bother (like SSB was planned as a one-shot from the start) and just do a couple-three sets of OT ships?

Anybody's guess.

The word that gets me from the core rulebook is "primary."

"There are two primary factions involved in the time period depicted in X-Wing: the Rebel Alliance, and the Galactic Empire. Each ship in this game box belongs to one of these two factions."

So why would you have two primary factions unless you were going to have other supplemental factions? But then, that's using the same logic as there needing to be ships bigger than the Falcon, since that one is "only medium." They may be covering all their bases, or they may just be really sloppy with wording and terminology. Tough to say.

EDIT: The pharse, "time period depicted in X-Wing" seems to be global to me, suggesting that if they did choose to do other eras, they'd be released as their own games.

Right below that quote it says "Although a game of X-wing always consists of two sides, the Rebellion and the Empire, it is possible to play the game with more than two players."

That doesn't look good for more factions either, unless the rule book is simply laying out the situation at launch.

Jedi Starfighters with numerous possible Jedi and Clone Pilots

Jedi Interceptor as above

ARC-170 Starfighter

Naboo Starfighter

Vulture Droid

Droid Trifighter

General Grevious's ship

Darth Maul's Sith Interceptor

Plus tons more.

Not my cup of tea, but hopefully we'll see reissues of the first wave with new cards.

That would be a nice list!!!
