Ell.

Did you roll a 6 at the mystic?

I personally don't give my board encounters names oh, other than blacky for the black knight and renaming the warlocks cave "Tim's house" :).

Hahaa, on the subject of naming talisman creatures Someone accidentally called the Eagle King for the Hawk King, this led to him rather quickly being renamed to Hawking.. Stephen Hawking and nowdays just Stephen for short gran_risa.gif

The need for a Lord of Darkness-nickname (Since Stephen got one) ended in Emo (goth, liked the dark and so on..).

Im guessing there will be something similar in the city (the water elemental thingie?) but so far no one of us has thought of any name for .. it.

Well, I'm not around for a few months and there is a new corner board expansion in the offing and a PC/mobile game too…

For my 2 cents/pence on the characters as seen so far.

The "soldier" is almost certainly a centaur. I imagine this is Ralph Horsey again doing the cover art and he is excellent.

If you look at the curvature of the characters abdomen, it comes in quite dramatically - Ralph would not make a mistake like that so it has to be

deliberate and means that his body goes at that angle. only explanation would be 4 legs rather than 2 e.g. a centaur

As for the chap with the wicked facial hair, there seems to be an animal on his shoulder, with the tail flailing out to the side.

My initial thought was a Rat Catcher, it fits with the City theme, possibly an animal tamer of some kind but less likely.

I think Goblin and Barmaid are good shouts too.

The blue elvish-type character has a very aggressive dagger action. Possibly a ninja but dressed in bright blue? Really?

I think more likely to be something unusual.

Similarly the Fire Elemental Elven, must be something elemental related.

Looks good though. Another one to add to my collection.

The small guy in the fountain looks like a Halfling Tinkerer.

The guy behind the fountain looks like a Jailor/Warden

The guy in black might be a Politician//Senator/Guild Master

The fire guy some kind of Elementalist/Summoner

The blue-clad elf looks like an Elven Huntress

The girl in the lower right corner some kind of Brewer/Potion Maker (You can clearly see something rising from her potion).

Finally someone who get's it. Barmaid… pffft :P

Or maybe an Apothecary?

Yup, Apothecary is the word I was looking for and the blue-clad Elf might be an Shadowdancer.

regards

I really wish FFG would announce the city on here, it's been a month or so since Gencon, this is torture, LOL

Yesssssss …

Considering the torture we have endured (previous comment, by Froman!)

I would not be surprized if there is a new Dungeon in the City, with a special rack for all us inpatient adventurers!

Oh, Ell, please be right! As coincidence would have it, tomorrow I am travelling to Indianpolis, where so far, the only 'clue' about the City, was revealed.

My travels will not allow me to net any new news (hmmmmm?), but I await whatever news posts here!

Its the 23rd here in sunny Sydney :). When is "today" coming?

Night time in sunnier Brisbane…. Still no news. :( Nite all.

Today still not here? Must be tomorrow :(.

Hooray for the city! My wishes:

  • freer movement than other boards
  • training available
  • elite purchase deck (and many shops)
  • a random ending where gold is useful (or required)
  • a short cut to the centre (but not a boss fight)
  • laws which can be broken (with consequences)
  • large coins worth five gold each
  • new player vs player interaction

I'd add dark fate to my wish list (I can't wait for that), but honestly that deserves to be a feature mechanic; probably in a small box expansion.

I like your ideas, though and would appreciate you illuminating them for us:

New Player vs player interaction - what does this mean?

Dark Fate, yes, we want it. Any ideas or speculation? anyone?

I really like Crimheads wishes.

The only one I'm a bit sceptic about is yet another shortcut to the centre. But make it a quick royal escort to the caste (close to portal of power) and I'm all game.

Large 5-gold coin would be very sweet. Why not make them to look like small bags of gold? And chests for 10-gold tokens =)

I too hope for more player-vs-player interaction. Except for spells, landing on other characters and the chivalic knight, there is very lite interaction. "Dark fate" could be a beginning to this, or some other mechanics to make the other players more involved when it's not their turn.

Also, I hope there is some large tower included in the city, where I can put my dice-tower =D

I want more ways to affect my opponents without encountering them. The Reaper and Werewolf have been good for this, but in the City perhaps I could pay somebody to dole out curses, or I could land another player in legal trouble which would hurt their reputation - perhaps ban them from the village, tavern, church, and Places until they've traveled to the courts and cleared their name (probably with a bribe).

I don't really want to speculate too much - I'm sure the FFG crew have all sorts of wonderful ideas.

As for another shortcut, I just want to be sure the city is useful and not a distraction. Perhaps by paying the enchantress (or potion brewer) an obscene amount of gold they will teleport you - but that would be more speculation :)

I think in the 2nd edition, the Enchantress could teleport you into the Timescape thing, maybe the Crown/Command? I don't remember.

Yeah, I feel that you could have a non player character in certain aspects of the City; ie a Sheriff or authority type. Like certain movement mechanics in the City make him encounter you. You either have a roll, or maybe you can purchase a license or form that gives you a safe status.

BTW, I love speculating, though I'm sure its really just my own ideas or wish list.

There could be another non player, didn't the second edition have the King disguised as a beggar who roamed around?

I like mundane consequences; imprisionment, banning from public establishments or the church, etc. This brings to mind that redemption can happen, if one undertakes other quests (escorting other Royal family members, like the Queen, from the City to the Castle, or delivering a lot of money to the Chapel. Either of these could be a Follower that has to be rolled every turn to make sure that Brigands or Thieves don't try to take the Queen or the big loot?)

Still nothing? Maybe I should just come back in a few months maybe then something will be up about the city!!.

I don´t think we will get it before christmas…

I want the City Expansion under my christmas tree…:)

Indeed, I bet they are aiming to release it just in time for Christmas. But still.. if they are going to have time for a couple of Headlines the should start pretty soon shouldn't they?

I mean, Blood Moon had 5 announcements before finally being released 2 months after the initial announcement.
www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_news.asp

Blood Moon did have a number of announcements and released in about 2 months, maybe a little longer.

A part of me wants to believe that The City is so much more than we have expected (or maybe exactly what we WANT!) that it will take to the last minute to be ready by Christmas. So, around October 21st, or maybe it won't be under the tree?

But to my other thoughts; maybe the board will be larger and wrap all around the board (not the same dimensions as Dungeon and Highland).

Last minute thoughts or regrets?

I would of thought the box art would be one of the last steps in the production process… Weird!
