Attactchments/upgrades question.

By Slaci, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hay, new to the forum.

We have been playing for about 6-7 times now, 6-7hours each. Alot of fun really, none of us every really played any rollplay before.

To scared what the girls might say I guess, hehe!

Anyhow, the question.

Lets say I got a shotgun, now thats a 2handed rifle. I get the Grip upgrade, so i can wield it in 1hand without penelty. So then I get a shield for that (I think thats kinda pimp yo). So, then I want to get the melee attatchment for the rifle.

So i can blast in range and then when they close in for the kill I get my 15+parry for shield and my then tricked out shotgun that i can wield in 1h with melee attachment. Making it a primitiv 1d10 dmg. Now, it says it acts as a spear. Dose this mean that i would have to use both hands for it? Then i'd would have to throw my shield away or break the rules.

In my mind this would make it a shotgun with a blade, or somthing under it. Make it possible to wield it like some kind of crude sword. Possible even a crude sword with inbuild't chamber along the blade with 2 slugs in it.

Now I have already made it 1h, atleast at range with the Grip upgrade.

A pistol with melee attachment, would that still be a spear? Kinda odd if you put a spik on a glock and would need 2 hands for it, but before you could just pistol whip it in one hand.

So, what is the consensus on this? Now, by no means would this be a great melee combo, but should make it possible for me to weather any attacks, and get a few in untill my fellow players who are more melee oriented bash the enemys head in good.

Sorry for the wall of text, hope you can clearify this for me. Thanks in advance. :)

The melee attachment is for a basic weapon, ie a weapon you have to wield two handed. As such i would simply say you cannot use the melee attachment while wielding a basic weapon in only 1 hand. Your shield could be strapped to your arm depending on the size, and your GM may allow you to use the melee attachment with 2 hands without dropping the shield, but you don't get a parry/cover bonus from it while doing so.
That's how i'd handle it at least.
