Canadians how are you getting to Minneapolis? Also can I bring other badges?

By Ultimo2, in UFS General Discussion

All i'm seeing is $600 round trip on air canada.

Not sure how much cheaper it would be to rent a car or who to rent one from or how long it takes to get there by car..wait 14 hours from Toronto, thanks google maps. Anyways, i'm the only driver in our group. I..can't...do that..-dies-

So yeah, any other options? x_x' Or cheaper air flights? :P

EDIT: Sorry didn't know where to post this one. Can I bring badges for people who can't make it? It would seem a bit of a waste if I could only trade in the ones I won.

My crew is driving. It's only 8 hours. We're looking forward to a short drive to a major event for once.

Try checking North West Airlines. Minny is one of their hubs. It should be a bit cheaper.

I just checked... if you're willing to fly out Early friday, and back on Monday afternoon, after exchange it should come to about $425

And holy crap. Air Canada after taxes looks like the best you can do is $770... yuck

What's currently retarded is it's cheaper to fly from Winnipeg to Minneapolis on Air Canada, going through Toronto on a connecting flight.

Yep... only $642 after taxes to fly from Winnipeg to Minny via Toronto, and the Toronto to Minny flights are the same ones via Air Canada that you'd be on.

$638 to fly from Wpg to MSP via NWA. Yeah... we're so driving... it's going to cost less then $200 for gas with 4 people in the vehicle.

The good news if you drive, is you get to go through Chicago. Which means Chicago Deep Dish Pizza. <so tasty>

If you have the option... you may want to split the drive over two days.

Day one - Thursday - head through chicago, come out on the other side, and beseech some of the Kenosha Folks to let you crash at their place to save costs on hotel, and then do the remainder of the drive on the Friday.

Heading back - crash sunday night in Wisconsin, stop in Chicago for lunch on the way home Monday (Deep Dish Pizza from Giordano's is so totally for the win. Hit the one on Dempster. It's right between the 94 & the 294, so you don't loose a lot of time getting to and from it. Yes... I've totally hit that place when road tripping far too many times)

Just a thought. This coming from someone who has done far too much in the way of epic road tripping.

$200 less for just one plane ticket..

Yeah i'm guessing the best bet is to rent a car..looking at a 24 hour bus ride otherwise =/

EDIT: I really appreciate the tips Antigoth. The longest road trip i've done was 6 hours or so haha.

You can bring 13 different patches. You will get 1 promo for each of the different patches.

However if you bring 3 fire patches, you would only get 1 promo.

Any time. For the last 15 years, I've been driving to Gencon which once it moved to Indianapolis it turned into a 20 hour drive.

Then again, I'm a bit weird... I'll drive for 14 hours straight, stopping only for Gas, Washroom, and food breaks. I find more then 14 hours in a day is my limit. After that I get cranky.

I don't know what your work schedule is, but you may want to try and book a day before to prepare for travelling, and a day after just to recover from the drive.

Take a read on the various comments following from the Gulf Coast Championship, quite often the weekend can really wear on a person. I know more than once when I've gone straight back to work after doing a long drive, I was fairly useless and wished I had taken an extra day.

If you're going, I've extra patches we need to get to Minneapolis, and no way to do so.

My master plan on what to do with extra patches is hire a hobo to turn them in, for like 2 dollars you could probably give a bunch of hobos your extra patches and have them collect your promos >_<

That kind of really sucks doesn't it? =/ I mean is there anyone we can talk to in regards to allowing people to bring other people's patches or some sort of mail-in redemption? We've been playing for the whole year collecting these patches.

As has been brought up many times before no. You only get the promos if you go. Which is why I've been trying to get someone who's going my patches.

Use an online dating site for Minnieapolis

Meet a cute girl. Get her to agree to come and exchange patches, and play UFS, and then go for a date. I mean they're already providing free food for the entrants, so the date is cheap.

We've already got a thread discussing swapping of patches, and finding way to help maximize promo distribution HERE

Wait free food form FFG I missed that announcement lol .

The last time I flew to Toronto from the Twin Cities, I went on Midwest. You go through Milwaukee, Wisconsin, but it was a lot cheaper than any direct flight.

Hatman, my email is on the SOC announcement. email me, maybe you can bring your patches to the SOC, or I'll pick em up at the quebec regionals, i'll take em to minnesota and mail you the promos when I pick em up. I'm not sure on our numbers, but we may be able to process your patches for you.

Regarding the Quebec regionals, how can I say this... sh...yeah. They may not happen. We jumped the shark and announced them too early. We'll still come to yours, however, which means I can bring those there.

Does that mean someone else can hold regionals on the east side of Canada? Because i'm sure TheAngryBeard would be interested

EDIT: Also how do I PM people? >_>

You don't. You friend them, hope they've made their email address available to their friends, and then email them.

I really wish I could go, I have all 13 patches. I just can't see myself having any way of getting to Minneapolis and back, which kinda sucks. Oh well. ^^

@ Ultimo: In Canada, I do believe that each province/territory is allowed to have 2 regionals per year and they have to be at different venues. My playgroup and I were kind of hoping Angry Beard would try to host another regionals for the Toronto Area seeing as we hadn't heard anything from the Ottawa Playgroup, and the hamilton playgroup is non-existant anymore.

The Ottawa playgroup is pretty small these days unfortunately which is why I haven't really looked into it, we're only about 4-6 players these days, and unfortunately I'm really the only competitive one, the others are very casual and not into the big tournament scene. Lost some of our players to people moving and some others quitting the game.

Oh nice, in that case i'm sure Beard would be enthusiastic to. We were worried we couldn't because Montreal was holding one.

Problem is, our playgroup is dying too. Well, it did die for quite a while. A few of us are looking forward to playing again but it's hard to get a day where everyone can make it. A few of us would like to visit Oshawa though, add me on MSN

[email protected]

Dreco feel free to add me on msn or email contact list, at brraaahhhh at hotmail dot com

I would like to keep contact with various playgroups in ontario/canada if possible.

I'm not sure if you guys can make it etc, but I am personally inviting your playgroup to our Regionals.

Look for the southern ontario regionals in the announcement section.

Sounds like fun.

If I understand correctly, there is only one promo in the Path of the Master tournament? So regardless of which patch we trade in, we'll get the same promo? Which i'm hoping is true actually.

Keep in mind our application is STILL on. We just haven't heard any word from Paul Bromen on this and other matters.

Ah no we won't do anything till we know for sure we can run one.

I'm just going to keep asking questions here instead of making new threads. Where's the rules? >_>' I thought there was usually a sticky in general discussion or Q&A

You show up. You show off your patch, they hand you a promo. You don't actually give up your patches. You get to keep them.

There is only one promo. You can get up to 13 copies of it, if you show 13 different patches.

I linked to a thread containing all of this stuff earlier, but for the sake of being more overt:

Hmm, I just double checked and looks like I was wrong http://app.fantasyflightgames.com/ufs-regional-champs-08.shtml . Quebec and Ontario are considered part of the same region. Hatman, can you keep me updated on facebook on any info on your regionals, so my playgroup can make proper arrangments to go to Quebec. Plus I haven't hit montreal's "red light" district in a while, and your regionals will give me an excuse to do so... :)
