Yakov Chernikhov- a 40k Fan?

By jabberwoky, in Dark Heresy

This subject may have come up before in this forum, but was Yakov Chernikhov a Warhammer 40K fanboy (even though he died in 1951)?

For those that don't know what I'm talking about, Chernikhov was a Russian architect, who in the 30s and 40s, suggested an… esoteric style to build with. Namely, it appears he envisioned a Soviet Union where nearly any building could be mistaken for a Gothic cathedral. An example of a bridge he wished to design appears below.

More of Chernikov's work can be found at Dark Roasted Blend , a site that seems at home sharing odd and wonderful things.

However, has anyone used Chernikhov's designs to flavor their own Dark Heresy campaigns? It seems that his architecture is a perfect match, perhaps with some modifications such as sticking Aquila symbols everywhere.

Gorgeous stuff.

Perhaps a campaign about the mad architect Chernikhov could be constructed? Even though I think that was the plot of one of the Ravenor books…

Though in 40k his style wouldn't be regarded as mad… looks totally conventional there…

Soviets were big on Art-Deco (and local versions) and 40k architecture is grimdarker ArtDeco. Examples:

Like this one better for the palace of the soviet just think about the size this project. The cloud would have been knee high on a nice day and under the feet during raining days.
