Help with the Bounty of Scintilla

By SirRunOn, in Rogue Trader

I gave my players the choice of ships to run in the camPAIN I have and they chose the Bounty of Scintilla. This ship from into the storm is supposed to have 40 out of 40 power used and 45 out of 45 space. I just can't figure out how they worked that out.

Can someone with Into the Storm help me out here? How do I make up the differences in the size and power of what's actually listed and the size and power of what they say.

Bounty of Scintilla

Any idea what they were doing here?

Damm, it's even worse. What's wrong with my ability to do math lately… I'll fix it, just have to post this before I can edit the topic post.

Looks like I'll need a bum-tonne of good quality components to even this thing out.

Anyone have some other ideas?

Just go with it. Or give it 45 power and 40 space. In the end, it's not going to really matter as long as the group is having fun.

Well, the bad news is your numbers look to be spot on, and there's nothing in the errata for this ship. You're five short on power. The good news is this glitch doesn't appear to be game breaking. As written, I don't see the Bounty of Scintilla being unbalanced in any way. (My player's ships were much more optimized, but they didn't buy from the book.) So, suggested solutions…

1) Ignore it. Liberally apply handwavium about extra efficient systems and/or quality components.

2) Patch it, take 1. Drop the augmented retro-thrusters. (If you want to boost the base hull's maneuverability to compensate, that's fine.) Apply good quality to the lance, and that solves the power deficit.

3) Patch it, take 2. Swap the lance for a Jovian missile battery, for that one shot crunch goodness. That leaves a power deficit of 2. Then, you need to either add two good quality components, or remove the extra main cargo hold to make up the difference.

4) Feel the burn. Add auxiliary plasma banks to cover the power deficit. This will leave you one short on space, so make them good quality to fit.

Just my 2 thrones worth,

I worked on it last night and this is what I came up with. A bit higher on SP but since they're getting this as a trade off for a Warden Class Gunship(The Inquisition gives you trades you can't refuse) they stole it should work.

Anyone see anything illegal I did on this ship?

I present the Kamidake:

Renamed because we have an old film buff with us in the party and he didn't want the "Bounty" on any ship he was a part of.

I was really thinking of adding the aux plasma banks but I realized it might not be a good idea to put on the ship something with a tendancy to EXPLODE.

Oh Vandegraffe I looked up weapon improvements for quality last night, I don't see -1 power anywhere on weapon upgrades. You might want to check that in BFK for future reference.

Ugh, dammit. Serves me right for not checking the rulebook before posting. The -1 power modifier is an option for supplemental components… but weapons (which are a type of supplemental component) use their own chart. Okay, you'll have to apply good quality to some non -weapon components in order to patch the power deficit. In any case it looks like you've got a decent ship now.

As for the aux plasma banks, where's your sense of adventure? gran_risa.gif
