There might be some news for us fans about WFRP at Gen Con as FFG writes the following in their news post about Gen Con:

"Want to learn the latest FFG news? […] If you’re an RPG fan, we have a seminar on Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay and Warhammer 40,000 Roleplay; it will be held in the Westin Chamber Room at 10am on Friday, August 17th."

I sure hope that FFG will make a video of the seminar for us that cannot attend Gen Con. They might not though so are there anyone on this forum going to Gen Con who's going to the seminar and can report back to us what FFG shares about WFRP at that seminar? It would be great!

Let's hope that FFG will make a video of this seminar and those lucky one that will have a chance to be there will share any news. Keeping my fingers crossed for announcement of new products for this line.

The "small but vicious seminar " video was great, and the sifting through the shadows document was also wonderful. I'd love something like that at this Gen Con. One can always hope and dream!

Really wouldn't surprise me if they announce that an expansion where you play on the other side comes out much like Black Crusade.

Looks like something is happening as the Enemy Within Links take you on an endless loop to the product page…. I have my fingers crossed that it will released at Gen Con and ship shortly.

At 3:48 of this video, you can see the name tag of Jay Little. So it really is him.

But why no news about WFRP?

I was at the seminar. Daniel Lovat Clark talked about Hero's Call, the PoD expansions and TEW3e for the first 5-10 minutes, then it was all 40KRP for the remainder of the seminar. He alluded to "future plans" but said he couldn't mention anything specific. He did say that TEW3e is designed so that the mysterious nemesis can be any of a number of NPCs, depending on the GM's preferences. I got the impression that he's not really a WFRP fan though (he couldn't remember Graeme Davis' name).

Day3:

Nothing doing for the drop in Nurgles bedpan that is wfrp. Otherwise, it really shows the production power of FFG though doesnt it!

Herr Arnulf, it would be foolish of us to be so falsely mislead that this line is lead by fans at all. It's probably a punishment at FFG to have to head this line. The dude didn't even know who graeme was?!?!?

Yeah its Jay Little, but i suspect that he has been working on the Star Wars RPG not WFRP.

Unfortunately with no real news on the Enemy Within and the limited use and relative rarity of the PODs, I think we can say that WFRP 3 is now firmly on the back burner, if not completely burnt out. Maybe Sunday will surprise us, but it all seems to be about board games, card games and the Star Wars RPG. They seem to be still supporting WH40K but I think that fantasy is now in the realms of the fanboys again.

I know FFG seem to have a policy of not talking to their customers on forums like this, but they really need to provide some direction here, otherwise more people are going to drift away and WFRP will drift back into the boondocks, forgotten about and unsupported by everybody except the fans.

They are only launching new games (WH40K, Starwars, etc) but nothing new for WFRP, no news no indications about where the game will go… it is sad because the game could have given a lot of new material and ideas. I dont understand the policy of FFG. Maybe the sales were too low to maintain this line?

I think the only hope we have is to collaborate more between us to release new content. Maybe more implication in projects like Liber Fanatica or the Book of Elves (by Yepesnopes)… I know it's difficult, as many of us have little time but it's my only hope…

PD: by the way, who wants another game about Starwars? :D

This confimed what I was warried about. No new products, no annuncements no nothing. It' really looks like it is that what I suspected for a long time now - the line is near it's end or dead. It looks like The Enemy Within will be the last one for this edition. It's a sad day for us all. Daniel Lovet Clark is not so enthusiastic like Jay Little was. I miss JL as a leading designer. He always gived us so many news and hints for what's comming. And now we are getting nothing. The same goes for other Warhammer Fantasy titles - W:I is also not so popular like it was and Chaos In The Old World is colsed. It will be once more a hard time for all Warhammer Fantasy fans out there. If You want my opinion it looks like FFG will not continue the licence and will throw it away. They have now Star Wars so why having to pay GW.

It looks like I will put this one on my shelf or sell it all and start playing more other games like Descent 2nd ed. and I will think of buying me the Edge Of The Empire for Star Wars. Maybe that one will not end so soon.

I'll continue to play my campaigns out though. I enjoy wfrp3, but it's hard to support something that won't have continuing support.

As I've always maintained, if they gave a ****, they'd participate on their forums..ESPECIALLY roleplay forums.

So 40k would probably be dropped too in favor of S.W. As you guys note, why would they want to pay the G.W. license if they have something that really could be a cash cow (if people suddenly manage to forget the other two recent versions of the RPG). I think they've got their work cut out for themselves overcoming that fact. IF anybody can sell it, ffg can though.

[edit: on a related topic: Adventures and Scenarios are what make ROLEplaying games memorable. FFG's great at putting out rules, but they don't put much emphasis on campaigns and scenarios (or they would do what Paizo does). Putting out another set of supplemental Star Wars sandbox rulebooks and world guides isn't going to help their cause. Just like THE ONE RING, initial interest died off quickly because they had NO SCENARIOS TO PLAY.]

So, what games and companies are you guys going to cultivate for the "end of days?" I'm thinking The One Ring (now that they have scenarios). Although pathfinder is popular (and very little work for the GM because they have so many campaigns), I hate the system. It's archaic and number-crunchy. Savage Worlds has such a plain rule-set and no direction (other than Deadlands). I really didn't care for Arcanis at all. Other suggestions for IN PRINT AND SUPPORTED RPGs that can be "in the waiting" for when FFG dumps the license?

This is all really sad.

If FFG had been really after our money they could easily have done with WFRP what they have done with the WH40KRPG. I mean how much new stuff have you seen for Dark Heresy recently?

Why didn't FFG produce a High Elf box set so that you could play High Elves in Ulthuan with all the different kingdoms there and the Druchii and the cytherai as the main enemies. That way you could have a seperate box for High magic etc. All this could be used with the main Old Kingdom rules, but High Elves are rare there. Why not use them in their natural setting.

Likewise they could have produced a Sartosa boxed set, with rules for ship combat and combat on ships as well as all the different maritime occupations. Detail on Sartosa would have been great and they could have expanded it to include the cities of Tilea like Miragliano and Luccini. Miragliano could have had new cards and rules for assassins and poisons, while Luccini could have emphacised the cult of Morr with more spells for dreams etc.

Finally they could have produced a boxed set for playing Skaven, like Children of the Horned Rat in the 2nd edition. New careers, new social system, new magic based around the undercity of Altdorf, Nuln or Skavenblight.

All that seems to be missing is the vision. I may be doing them a disservice but I don't think many of FFG are real fans of WFRP and understand the possibilities of the mythos.

FFG have got two more years to go on their license from GW. I suspect they will concentrate on WH40KRPG and Star Wars as the sci fi setting is not as choked as the fantasy with Pathfinder and D & D.
