King Kazador question

By sammann11, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Can someone give me hand on figuring out the following example/scenario:

Chaos is attcking a Dwarven Battlefield with 2 Savage Gors, 1 Savage Marauder, and 1 Dark Zeolot. Because thier battlefield has 2 developments, each Savage Gor gains 2 hammers. So the attacking units now have a total of 9 hammers (as opposed to 5 because of card effects). Chaos also has 0 resources to pay for anything with.

Dwarves choose to defend with Defender of the Hold, Runesmith, and King Kazador. - These defenders have a total of 8 HP.

Because King Kazador can't be targeted by the Gor's card effects, how does assigning damage break down?

My crazy guess was this: If the Runesmith and Defender of the Hold each absorb 1 damage, they are discarded and 7 damage remain, but is it really only 3 damage (5 original hammers minus the 2 to kill Defender and Runesmith?) Or can Chaos claim it used two of their "extra hammers" on Defender and Runesmith, and now attack Kazador with the "original" five? In this case, they'd be assigning a total of 7 damage, leaving 2 "on the table".

Any help here would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

First of, King Kazadors card text prevents an opponent from targeting that specific card wihout paying an additional 3 resources. The Savage Gors card text creates a constant effect that references the damage done when attacking in relation to the amount of developments in the battlefield, but this is not a targeted effect . Neither is assigning or applying damage, so Kazadors card text does not prevent the Savage Gors from dealing additional damage.

When damage is to be assigned during combat, place each assigned damage token next to the unit. When they are applied, move them onto the unit. If a unit at any point has more damage tokens on it than it has hit points, it is instantly destroyed. Enough damage must be assigned to defending units before any damage can be assigned to the capital.

In this case, Kazador alone could almost prevent this from happening, as he also has Toughness 2. Since Toughness is a cancellation effect in play, the attacking player must take that into consideration when assigning damage, ergo he or she must assign all but 1 of the 9 damage to Kazador (6 hit points + 2 Toughness = 8 points of damage is required to destroy it), and only 1 to the defending zone.

Hope this helped!

H

That all made sense! Cool. Thanks!
