Trading During Encounter

By Esto, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Trading is allowed at any time except during combat. If 2 Investigators are in the same location & one of them has just drawn an Encounter Card that requires the expenditure of money, can the other Investigator just slip him the cash?

An encounter must be completed in its entirety before trades are made.

That said, I really think they can only trade during movement . I'm not sure where this "any time" interpretation came up. Someday we'll see, I guess.

The Dunwich rulebook:

Q: Exactly where, when, and what can investigators
trade?
A: Investigators may trade any time they are in the
same location except during combat.

Wow. After so many games, I find out that the rules do not restrict trading only during the movement phase :P

Oh, believe me over the years, there's been a lot of trading at both the Gebneral Store and tthe Curiositie Shoppe!

This is good to know, thanks.

Does this mean you allow trading once the 3 items have been revealed in either location?

That doesn't sound very right…

Esto,

On this forum, you'll have individuals debate the minutiae of every rule in the book ~ we enjoy that give-and-take aspect of this game and the fact that the rules aren't iron-clad…except for maybe "Follow the Phases"…everything else is commentary. When a debate arises, individuals will either camp on the side of mechanics or theme…

From the mechanic-side, you can trade at all times (in my games) other than 'in Combat' which is a personal affair…you can't start trading things after the bullets or spells start flying. Thus, if we're in the General Store together, there's nothing mechanically wrong with providing a fellow Investigator a few bucks to afford the shotgun. Again, speaking from a mechanical standpoint, both Investigators have spent time…a valuable resource in this game…an entire turn in the store engaged in a collaborative endeavor.

From the thematic camp, the Investigators are fighting for their lives ~ it certainly makes thematic sense that they would assist one another i ay way possible to keep the monsters at bay as they attempt to close-off portals to Other Worlds and stave-off the Great Old One.

That's the way I tend to play, too. Plus, if the rules allow me to have two investigators exchanging items while in the same area of an OW, I don't see why they should forbid me to have them helping each other while in the same Arkham location. I guess the Curiosity Shoppe is a little smaller than the Dreamlands.
