Tattered Fate : How to have fun in 41K?

By eponette, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

Always preparing TF. (Thanks for al your ideas…)

But how do you imagine the'partying' in the city? More like 17th century Venice music and theatre? Or some 20th century rave party?

There is a good description of the horror and the blood and the murders. But what about food? Is there a sort of cook festival? What about sex? On the street everywhere? Or more into private rooms/parties?

Fireworks? Rolercoaster?

Cheers

Definitely 17th century Venice (with a bit of late roman decadence) for the aristocracy if you ask me. 20th century rave party is more for the mid-hive masses.

It should really be envisioned to be decadent and even a little depraved (e.g. slaves killed in theatre plays), with gladiatorial games (to the death of course), animal shows and a lot of carnival like atmosphere. It is important to play up to the disparity between the grittyness of the Red Cages and the debaucherous party on Quaddis' surface.

Food will often be extravagant (e.g. unknown xenos creatures), expensive and often easy to consume (i.e. while partying, copulating or watching shows). Sex will be present (though not overdone to make it ridiculous) and is mainly focussed on a certain region in Quaddis if I remember correctly (somewhere in the area near the Spider Bride). Surely fireworks and not so much rollercoaster if you ask me.

One of the first Ravenor novels describes a so called CARNIVORA that can be sort of inspiring. Just add a little more 17th century Venice, late roman decadence and the frivolity of ancient greece.

The secon half of the following containes some ideas about "fun and games"

Generally, I think of the Carnival as the streets being crowded with peasants and lesser nobles, both drinking free wine (sponsered by the nobles), dancing to musci troupes (hired by nobles) with the masses thronging about while the lesser nobles are cordonned by guards with shock lances (if need arises). Those of real high and might watch from high balconies, have special places "blocked off" for them or pass a meter above if luxorious anti-grave barges (perhaps throwing flowers as the pass or simply given trinket chips of entrance to a banquet hall where they will watch from high above as the masses feasts and parties).

Everything suting an opern air stage will be going on: short and raunchy thearter performances, jugglers, flame-eaters, singers, life artist and clowns.

Fireworks is a good idea…but Holo-Light shows in squares artificially darkends by massive tent structures might work as well. Rides from a fairy might be nice, having skimmer races right above the heads of the crowd will be nicer.

I've always thought that the nobles are having their parties, some things in the street in cordoned off areas, somtimes taking the risk of mixing with the proles but sometimes privately where they can do all the things they can't do when the light of the emperor shines upon them.

The masses are enjoying entertainments provided by the nobles, some by 'the city'. The size and quality of the party you can throw for the masses is probably a measure of the power/fame/wealth of your family so different houses are likely to try and outdo each other in throwing lavish and exciting parties for the people. Street parties, theatre, just loads of booze are all likely to have their place. One thing I might add is to make the whole city one huge masquerade. Nobles can mix with the masses wearing masks to enjoy slumming it and it has got to be extra creepy for every man, woman and child to be wearing a mask whilst all this is going on.
