lure of the expanse, ghost warriors

By lerak, in Rogue Trader Gamemasters

I am approaching the endgame of "lure of the expanse", having finished the last nexus (sabrine) yesterday. So very soon, my PC will encounter Ghostwarriors (maniacal laughter). The description of their ghostcannon reads:

when hit by a ghostcannon, launch 2d10 to détermine damage…ignores armour and endurance (Gulps)… on a result of 19-20 the target dies…on a result of 2-10, the victim is téléported 2-10m.

My question is: what happens between 11 and 18?

Also: How are the PC going to survive this?

They're called Wraithguard in the English version, just fyi.

On an 11-18 they take that much damage, on 2-18 actually, they take that much damage. It hurts. Your Explorer's will very quickly start dodging and avoiding any of those shots. That final encounter is one of the hardest ones presented, so don't be surprised if you kill one or 2 of your characters.

The player characters should not confront these by themselves. RT is not so much about fighting the bad guys as much as it's exploiting a situation and making a profit, Fighting the bad guys might help to achieve this but it's better if you can pay someone (or better yet not pay them) to do the fighting (and especially the dying) for you.

Spoken like a true Patriot of the RT Art of War. gran_risa.gif

My group fought these guys on our own and beat them with no deaths. It was the puny regular eldar at the in the intersanctum that almost killed my exporator. had to burn a fate point and was down for a little while.

Keep the following in mind:

Like other people said: Rogue Traders don't operate on their own.

My group solved this 'problem' by deploying heavy armour, this is: They deployed 4th and 5th company of the Praetorian 7th armoured. Wraithguard are surprisingly not resilient to battlecannon fire :-)

yep, only they blew all (and I mean all) there armed forces on dross (long story). Fornow, they only have 30 soldiers left

My group having been seasoned players by the time that we played around with that simply called in a space marine they had on ship and he chain-fisted them to death with his termie armor.

Second group where I was GM well… They set a HUGE trap using imperial guard sharp shooters that ended with the ork and RT still standing with the other four group members dead…

I'd suggest just playing it smart as a player and using them resources and as a GM well… Just play smart and understand while they might be slow in battle they do 'war up' because they were once upon a time aspect warriors.
