Search and Detain Plot Card.

By Wulffrik, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Greetings!

I want to use the Search and Detain Plot card for my deck. Though i don't fully understand what it does. In the box it says that, " i must choose a card without any attachments controlled by the first player". After that it says that, " Take to it's owners hand". I am not sure, but do i have to choose a card controlled by the FP (first player), with just no attachments, or do i have to choose a card on which there are going to be no attachments that the FP placed. When i used it the first time, a guy told me that i must choose a card without any attachments controlled by the FP, and thath the attachments are those that make the meaning of this card. The next time i used it the, the guy that i was playing told me (after i said i was the FP player cause of what i wrote above) that the card i must choose should be one of mine, cause i am the FP and that the card mustn't just have no attachments . I really don't know how it works so please help. If i should choose one card, only controlled by th FP and with no attachments, shouldn't the text using a " , " (punctuation) between the word ATTACHMENTS and the word CONTROLLED?

Thank you for your time.

There are two requirements places on the card you can choose to return to hand:

  1. It must be controlled by the first player
  2. It must not have any attachments on it (at all)

The first guy you talked to might not be familiar with the way the game template works and parsed the words on the card incorrectly. I'm not even entirely sure what he was trying to say with his whole "the attachments are those that make the meaning of this card" statement.

When you use this plot, you figure out who the First Player is. Then, you choose a card without any attachments on it controlled by that player and return it to its owner's hand. That's all there is to it.

I am actually not sure if what you are telling is right, cause if it is, then FFG should correct this card. The card, in my opinion and by many more, is as the first guy told me. I am sure that you must simple choose a card without any attachments and that the attachments are those that shouldn't be controlled by the FP.

FFG almost never answers questions directly on the rules forum. If you's like an official answer, there is a "Rules Questions" link in the copyright section at the bottom of the page. They are usually pretty good about answering questions asked directly through that link.

Maybe it's blindness because of playing the game too long, but the "card controlled by the first player; no attachments at all on that card" interpretation is the one I know FFG applies.

You must propably be right about the meaning of the text. And just to be clear what i tried to say is that i though that the attachments should be controlled by the FP and not the card in general. I am sorry if i wasn't clear but since i found this issue on this card i wanted to ask. Thank you very much for your help.

You were probably explaining yourself just fine. I probably just had "blinders" on and couldn't see it because of my own pre-conceived notions.
