From the core rules…future LARGE units!

By VaultDweller, in X-Wing

Saw this on my first quick read through the core rules…

"Rest assured, we're far from finished. As we expand the X-wing miniatures game, you can expect to see additional amazing models released in the future, including some large surprises."

Keyword - large.

Hopefully the definition of large is not the Falcon or Slave 1 but capital ship large!

I'm one to disagree. If you throw captial ships into the mix it will drastically change the dynamics of the game. I am excited for this to remain a dogfighting game, with later expansions bringing us cool fighters from the expanded universe, and some larger freighters and shuttles.

I am, however, totally in favor of a completely separate fleet-scale game with all the cool capital ships.

I could see a separate fleet-scale game and understand how many might want this to stay at the dogfight level. So a Lamba-class shuttle would be large then?

Lambda!

Would so love a Lambda Class. Such a great design. It may not be much of a fighter but it would be an addition to the line I would go nuts over.

I remember with great malice receiving an SSB Lambda back in the day from T&T that had been rolled into a ball with the card around it. sorpresa.gif

I figure large will be some of the following:

Skipray Blastboat

Slave I

Falcon

Lambda Shuttle (nice call on that one VaultDweller!)

Not sure what else would be fair in side. Remember an SD is like 15 feet long at this scale.

I too would second an in depth capital space game. However, I want that one in depth, way more that the old SSB from WOTC.

Thanks,

Duncan

Indeed, now I even know what these things are called :)

Assault Gunboats!

Lambdas are only 20 meters long, not even twice the length of an X-Wing. Easy to do at this scale (except for the massive wings).

Just ship them folded up so they fit in the package. Then have an extra peg in the box so they don't touch the ground.

Good point. Now I'm starting to wonder if they really meant adding some small capital ships. Corellian CR90 Corvettes are about 150m, and the Wild Kaarde is about 125m. I guess those would be possible. At this game's scale how big would the miniatures be?

I think we might be reading too much into the word "large" in the phrase "large surprises". I think it means we will be surprised, not that the next ships willbe large. The rules make x-wing a dofighting game. If ships are too large to dogfight, then I, personally, hope they don't show up.

I wound love to see FFG do a star wars fleet action game, but it would have to be a vastly different game in more than just scale.

Approximately 22" and 18"

The scale is 1 inch to every 6.858 meters.

And I wouldn't want to think about what something that big would cost!

I gotta think the biggest we will get will be shuttles (which are kind of uninteresting) and the Falcon and Slave I. Those have both been shown to be good dogfighters and are VERY iconic. I would love to see a Falcon with two turrets that can fire a turn. Redo the whole escape from the Death Star scene (one of my favorite parts!)

Thanks,

Duncan

Yeah, the turrets would be awesome. I had wondered before if they would let the Falcon fire in 360 degrees, but I think the fact that the Ion Cannon Turret does means we can safely assume the Millennium Falcon will as well. We're definitely going to see the Millennium Falcon in this game.

As for reading too much into "large surprises," I agree that they probably weren't trying to make a pun, even if there will be larger craft in the future.

I'm not so sure about that - why did they put "large" in bold face if they didn't intentionally write it as a pun? The only other words that are bold on the two "Production Notes" pages are several mentions of "X-Wing".

Ah. I missed the bold face type. You're right. It's referring to larger ships. I'm convinced it's the freighter-sized ships, rather than capital ships, but we won't know till we get an announcement.

A Correllian Corvette would be about 18 inches long in this scale. I imagine it would cost more than $100…

I guess that "large" means YT-1300 or Firespray ships…

Capital ships could be included as a card. Look at the mission portion of the rules. There is a specific card for the Senator's Shuttle. Capital ships might give a tactical advantage. For instance, the cost to deploy a ship under "Squad Building Rules" could be reduced if a Capital ship is present. The movement could be restricted to the player's edge and they could have the ability to target ships if they are in range or even hold them in place with a tractor beam.

Come on it's obviously the Death Star! Or probably just the trench. It comes in a 18" wide, 1/4 mile long roll with cardboard towers and a small thermal exhaust port template that you have to roll your dice onto to hit.

What do you mean 'no'?

Since all the ships are to scale, a star destroyer card would only have to be six meters long gui%C3%B1o.gif

Well played.

I was considering Pilot Stress from the rules and the fact that Card Rules supersede the Game Rules. I think that the Millennium Falcon with Han Solo and Chewie (Multiple crew members should be possible, no?), should actually get benefits from Stress. Just look at the films: Solo did his best and most creative flying under pressure. It would be really cool if this was translated into the gameplay for the Falcon.

I thought it was a different kind of stress, like physical stress, not emotional stress. I don't think doing a kolgorian (sp) turn would stress a pilot out, but I could see it putting stress on their body. Know what I mean?

If done in the same scale, the B-wing will dwarf the other fighters.
