Val and Reducers Question?

By potatoechip99, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Quick question about Val. If I use a reducer such as Seat of Power to reduce the next Baratheon card I play by 3, then use Val's ability to reveal and draw a card and that card happens to be a duplicate of a unique Baratheon card in play, does the Seat of Power still trigger even though I'm playing a duplicate who's cost is nothing and text is blank? Or do reducers not trigger for playing duplicates of unique characters already in play?

I'd say reducers don't affect duplicates, because duplicates have no house affiliation (also no cost, no title, … nothing).

Duplicate does not count as a card, IIRC.

Try again, a duplicate is a valid target for Search and Detain. A card is all a duplicate is.

Playing a duplicate does count as playing a card, but as Khudzlin says, it does not have a house affiliation, so things like the Fiefdoms or Palace Fountains would still work. Nor is playing a duplicate considered to be playing a card of the respective type (character, attachment, location), so reducers like the Streets or Refurbished Hulk would still work.

In short, no, playing a dupe doesn't invalidate your peviously used reducers.

Ok, thanks for the answers guys! This is the answer I was looking for. :)
