Re-releasing older minis?

By Logoi23, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Why not reprint those minis and then release them in small packs with a few new cards or one or two one shot quests. These quests could be centered around the monster minis that come with that set. This would be a great way to dollar me to death and i would die smiling. I will preorder the sets I am missing today!!!

That would totally suck for everybody who already had the minis from first ed., which was the original point of the conversion kit, i.e. thank you for your patronage, here's something cool to use with D2.

I would love for them to re-release the figures, or even just sell them on their website like they do with the painted Mansions of Madness miniatures. I would gladly buy a few of them, since I only have Tomb of Ice from the first edition. I know I'd buy a bunch.

Reaper Games is wrapping up a Kickstarter for their Bones line of miniatures. $100 for 170 miniatures, mostly fantasy. There's a thread on BoardGameGeek about which monsters this project will proxy. Someone said, so far, you can proxy for *all* the D1E monsters, except for three of them! They also have add-ons like dragons, giants, ogres, ice wyrms, etc. and Reaper paints on the cheap.

The going rate for a copy of 1st edition descent has dropped a lot. I just picked up a copy for $90. On ebay.

If these figures were reprinted, I'd buy them immediately.

I think they could throw some of the 1ed minis on the new expansions until eventually ALL could have the chance to enjoy the game as we should.

Sure, some people that already have the miniatures WE ALL WANT would be upset… well I'm upset now because they release an expansion that has 48 new heroes charts and tons of monsters charts, and if I truly wish to have the plastics I would have to work some kind of miracle…

In the end if they would choose to re-release the old minis at a slow pace along with the new expansions I think it would be a win win situation for old and new players of Descent.

I certainly hope they don't reprint and include the old minis in future expansions. I would rather those resources go in to stuff I did not already buy years ago. I am fine with them reprinting and selling the mini's separately. Why punish the loyal fans by forcing us to buy stuff we already have?

I was at the Fantasy Flight Games In-Flight Report at GenCon, and this very question came up.

Unfortunately, the answer was a definite "NO."

There are no plans to reprint the old miniatures. It sucks, but there ya go. I'm just glad that I was able to get ahold of all of the Descent expansions before second edition was announced.

Thats a shame and a bit weird. If they can release painted Arkham Horror miniatures for crazy prices, you'd have thought they could do this.

Maybe they destroyed the molds…

Well… that sucks indeed, but hopefully the new stuff is going to make me forget about the old stuff.

What a waste. The eBay crowd is making loads of cash on plastic that ffg could be selling. We need a descent second edition conversion kit minis kit. I want to give ffg my monies!

Heck yeah! I played the first edition a few times and enjoyed it, but never owned a copy myself. I'm enjoying the second edition and would like to be able to acquire first edition minis to ake the most out of buying the conversion kit. At the moment I'd have to use proxies which would be okay, but being able to get the first edition minis would be grand, and I'd prefer to patronize FFG for them if possible.

I would be very glad if FFG recrafted the D1 minis.
But I already have prepared a file with standup substitutes (scaled according to the orignial figures' sizes): I can live with standups.

FFG should fire up a kickstarter to remake all the minis with new sculpts! ;D

FFG either doesn't seem to understand this, or doesn't care, considering the scalper-enabling they do at GENCON.

I just spent probably $200 bucks getting the mini's I don't have including Lt.'s and Promo's so I hope they don't. I got a complete set now.

They just don't care. Really, they make their profit off the game, and that is that. It is your own choice to buy the games at a ridiculously insane price. Let those scalpers set their prices, but don't buy from them. Just wait two months for the game to come out for the rest of the world. You should be supporting your local game store instead of supporting the scalpers.

didn't see this post. (found a way way older one).

Sad though they don't want to re-release the minis. Though the "proposals" raised were interesting

A. conversion kit minis kit (heroes and monsters)

B. conversion kit minis pack with small decks for heroes[equips]/ol(similar to Death Angel) and quests for the monster pack

C. include them in future expansions

Heroes i guess would be troublesome to collect. as some are from RB, Limited Editions (nara, etc.) and Dungeon Quest. I read somewhere plus from Drakon. while suggesting that buying a whole other game just to get a few minis is fine, some people are really not that interested in those games. so having them sold as separate products might be better. of course ffg as company would prioritize profit above all other things i would assume and if doing so wouldn't result in profit for them of course they wouldn't do it.

also i find it odd that someone said, to an effect, that it's a loyalty reward having the 1st ed figures not get reprinted or it would be punishment for 1st ed owners to have these reprinted and included in future expansions. but hey.

lastly, can FFG kickstart this? i guess that would be a good gauge to "check" the market's interest for this if ever. (though i guess people are still reeling from the Bones KS, Sedition and Relic- only applies for those interested in those games as well as Descent)

after contemplating a bit more, i guess this would be quite an issue if they (1st ed minis) were bundled with new expansions. You'd have your actual 1st ed minis sitting around as extras.

if it were just the small minis packs with a few cards, you could always just proxy out the cards :D

I never have supported a scalper, and I never will. A month isn't a long time to wait for a game to release. I just hope they change sales policies before next GenCon.
