Web issue!

By Stillborn, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

The book says:

"After inflicting at least 1 damage (before applying the effects of armour) to a figure with a Web attack, place a web token next to that figure."

I assume this means that if I hit for 1, and you have 1 armour, I still web you.

My questions is, lets say I roll 1 heart, and you block with a shield, do I still get to web you? Since shield isn't technically armour, my gaming group is going to argue this one, is there an official ruling, or is it a non-issue?

P.S I'm playing vanilla descent

If you don't miss, are within range (or melee) after mods and score one or more hearts after mods on your attack roll, effects such as Web kick in.

Ok, thats what I thought, I'll enforce it ruthlessly then :)

One other web related question, do any of you when playing as the OL not allow both a burn and a web effect?

I imagine it's pretty hard to be both web'd and burning at the same time, so I tend to remove the web if someone is burning..

Is there any concensus on this? Has anyone discussed it before?

There's certainly nothing in the rules saying that you should remove web tokens from people with burn, so that would be purely a houserule if you did it, and I don't see any particular reason to do so. It will hardly ever come up (only monster in base game with burn is the dragon, and only monster with web is the master bane spider), and the overlord will generally prefer to have heroes webbed than burning, so it'll just force the overlord to try not to hit the webbed hero with the dragon's breath attack. I've certainly never seen it suggested before.

To further clarify the shield thing, the shield negates wounds , not damage , so it has no effect on abilities like web. Wounds negated with a shield won't result in poison tokens, though.

Bane spiders have a magical attack, thus it is magical web... ?! does that help ?!

yes I feel it does help :)

Besides, their feet could be webbed to the floor with their hair on fire...
