Is that… a bathing suit?

By cdcace, in Anima: Beyond Fantasy RPG

Ok so one of my players presented the strangest idea for an adventure for a future game. Those of you who have the Gaia book have most likely at one time or another read about the adventure idea on the island of Paradise Paradise, called "Is that… a bathing suit.?" From the first time I saw this adventure idea I've always wanted to run it just for kicks, the only problem, I've had a all male party pretty much the entire first campaign of Anima I had run with this party. I'm now running the continuation campaign which takes place with all the same events that had happened in the prior but now we actually have two female party members. Although just having those two girls compete in the event doesn't sound like that much fun. Luckily the player who i mentioned earlier presented the idea that one of my recurring Enemy NPC's who is a mad scientist (basickly my take on Loctus Khan Schwarzwald who i call Richard for making it easier to say) could build some device that turns the entire party female, but refuses to turn them back unless they compete and win in the event on paradise paradise.

Of course this is going to be a complete joke adventure, basickly your average Filler episode for your favorite anime series. I've got a couple ideas of how to run this adventure, but I was curious if any one has already run it and if people could give suggestions. I'm open for suggestions.

For those of you without the Gaia book I will give a synopsis of the Adventure hook from the book.

A contest called "Beauties on Water" in which the most beautiful women in Gaia compete wearing only sexy bathing suits. Any woman beautiful enough to compete will have to participate in a series of aquatic events for three consecutive days. Although their is an organization called "the Moral Order" which opposes this event and will try to intervene.

So what I'm looking for are suggestions of events, I don't need much help with the "Moral Order" stuff, I'm really just looking for ideas on the Aquatic events.

Stuff I've already come up with.

- Swimsuit construction (First round)

- Some sort of puzzle or scavenger hunt or both. (Elimination round)

- Obstacle course - Series of skill checks - only have a certain amount of time to complete (Time being turn amount) (Elimination round)

- Battle Royal FFA or Tournament battle scenario (Final Elimination Round)

These next ones would be extra events that take place before the final elimination round, no one is eliminated in the extra events just those who participate get a chance of getting a reward of some sort.

- Talent Show (Skill based Talent, or maybe a display of powers) (extra event)

- Beauty contest (Not really sure how to do this) (extra event)

- The question aka "World Peace", you know what question im talking about. (extra event)

- Couples event (not really sure how I'm gonna do this one) (extra event)

So any ideas on how to do the ones i've listed or have your own ideas please present them.

Thx

Well I'm a little sad that no one responded yet, but i have written up the contest. So far its 7 events long each event consisting of points you can get according on how well you do. The Final event you are required to have over a specific amount in order to participate.

- Swimsuit Construction (using forging ability)

- Beauty Contest (Appearance, Swimsuit quality + Persuasion, style, Intimidate, Art, Disguise for bonus points)

- Talent Show (Dance, Art, Music, or what ever skill they choose to use as their Talent)

- The Question - "If you could have/change one thing in the world what would that be?"

- Obstacle Course (6 parts consisting of Str, Agi Checks, swim, Acrobatics, Athleticism, Climb, Stealth, Search, Notice, Persuasion, Intimidation checks, Knowledge, Kissing)

- Team Volley Ball

Mixture of combat rules to make it like a sport + a few skill modifiers from (Acrobatics, Athleticism, Slight of Hand)

- Final Battle Tournament

What I listed out is just a simple break down of the Contest, the actual rules and everything I wrote out came to be 4 pages long in openoffice, but I don't think I will share that until after I actually run the game, just in case some of my party members read this post. If people are interested in my break down, send me a message and I might send you the file.

Of course I'm still up for suggestions and such

Thx

It sounds good so far. Not really sure a battle tournament fits though.

If our players balk at a sex change in mid game, you could just have the male characters find a female to compete. You could print out some photos of actresses or models from the net and give them each certain attributes that they like. The guy who successfully shows the attribute would attract that girl to compete. It would basically be a "Who can write the best pick-up line contest" between all of the players. Then of course there would need to be some serious persuasion rolls or short quests to find things to persuade the girls to wear the swimsuit of your design.

Use some stereo types to come up with quests. A material girl might want gold (or the perception that you have a lot of gold), a naturalist might want you to free some rare animals in the zoo area or get a clipping from a rare (man-eating) plant, a feminist might want you to burn a bra on the moral majority's front steps. If they can survive these little forays then the gals would oblige them and wear the suit.

Just some thoughts.

Thats a good idea Stilgar, I've actually decided to inform my party about the little gender bending event coming up just to make sure no one would have any problems. So far the party seems ok with it, except for one player. I will present him this idea so that he may still participate. Although his character has severe phobia (Beautiful Women = 8+ appearance) So this game session was gonna be hard for him no matter what, even if he would have agreed to the gender bend. But I'm always willing to try something to make all players happy, or at least most.

As for Kalis, thx for the complement, and to explain the battle tournament at the end, in a nut shell. Just imagine whats better than a bunch of girls parading about in sexy swimsuits than girls in sexy swimsuits wrestling it out. Some how I can't see this tournament not having a water battle at the end, it would be like watching mud wrestling without the girls in the mud. Although I've never watched Mud wrestling just heard about it.

Thx

Yeah, but it is a beauty pageant, and it doesn't matter how powerful you are. If one of the npc women happens to be a fashion designer with 10 appearance and tons of style(a freelancer basically), tons of intellectuals, music and speaks well, but no combat skills at all, why does she lose to some martial artist with 7 appearance. The woman obviously is a better example of beauty, but loses just because she doesn't like to hurt people. Or if the martial artist is eliminated early and the NPC is up against somebody like herself it just becomes some boring unskilled slap fight.

I could, maybe, see a splash fight(no weapons, just splashing each other in the pool), but nobody wants to see pretty women all beaten and bloody, especially when one of them is proclaimed most beautiful at the end. There are plenty of battle tournaments in Gaia, but including it here seems out of place.

I think i see what you were trying to say now, and I'm gonna take that into consideration. I probably will be re-working the tournament or removing it. Thans for the advice.

Perhaps an idea: A "Fighting-Event" with instable platforms or something in this term over the pool (little swimming islands or small planks, and everything is secured with foam material). The weapon would be replicas, secured with foam material. Target is it, to "throw" all other participants in the water.

So, no one would get hurt and it would be "fun" for the spectators.

A proposal for rules: If someone is hit with a "foam weapon", she must make a arcobatics check 70 + half the damage normaly made with the weapon (no strength bonus, the foam weapons are flexible), and if she doesn't succedd, she falls into the water. So for example: If someone would hit with a "foam long sword", which would be a base damage of 50, and the combat table indicates 20% damage, the person, who was hit, must make a arcobatics check against 80 (70 + 20% of 50), but no damage is done.

It is possible, to include more rules (for example, the check is against 110+"damage", but someone will only fall into the water, if she fails the check more then 40 point, if she fails the check less or equal 40 points, the failure level would be an all action penalty for the next round), or "special maneuver" and so on.

I think, with something like this the "battered beauty queen" wouldn't be a problem.

So long,

I like the padded weapon combat at the end. However, unbeknownst to the comatants, either the Moral Majority or the crazy mad doctor, has let a group of piranahs or a bull shark into the pool. Lets keep it interesting.

Oh, also if there is mud wrestling there needs to be a midget involved as well!

Not sure how to respond to that…

But the padded weapons would be an interesting idea to investigate, I will look into trying to incorporate something along those lines.
