The Bow of the Hawk reroll question

By Thanel, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

With the Tomb of Ice magic item, The Bow of the Hawk, can the magic ability of the bow (rerolling any one die) be countered by a dodge just like Aim and Dodge cancel one another out in the core rules? The bow does not have on its card the word aim, just that it's an ability of the bow to reroll any one die.

Sandbaggers want to know....

You know... I'm not sure on this one. The Bow's re-roll ability isn't as powerful as a full aim, so I'm not sure if it would completely cancel out a Dodge OL card. I think I'd play it as the player being allowed to re-roll one die, then the Dodge kicks in, and allows the OL to force a re-roll on everything other than that one.

Pretty sure this wouldn't be the official ruling, but does make sense to me. Let's see how other people take it.

There was a thread on a related topic not too long ago. See here for my thoughts.

I agree with Antistone's take on it from that thread.

while in no way official or RAW, the elegent solution would be to extend the no attack can be rerolled more than once to no die can be rerolled more than once, and any die that would be subject to multiple rerolls instead is not rerolled at all, thus if a hero with bow of the hawk were to attack a monster who was dodging, the hero would be able to declare one attack die to retain its original value.

Note: all dice are subject to a reroll in the case of a dodge or aim, even if they are not chosen to be rerolled.

That...doesn't seem terribly elegant to me...
