Backpack Ammo and Combi weapon

By frenchie_666, in Dark Heresy Rules Questions

Hiya,

A player of mine wants to have two backpack ammo packs, one for the main weapon in his combi weapon, and one for the secondary weapon for his combi weapon. Essentially bypassing the single shot limit for the combi weapon's secondary weapon.

I cant find anything in the books to say he can't do this (I'm loath to just tell him no as to be honest his reasoning is sound).

Thanks.

Well it sounds as if you're fine with the request. Did you need some suggestions on what mechanics to implement, or on limitations that should be implemented? I take it this is a Hellgun with a combi-weapon? Or am I mistaken?

I'm not particularly happy with a full backpack supply for the melta add on, I just don't really want to say "No! Becuase I say so!"

It's a twin linked las-gun combi melta.

She/He can't find it because:

1) The modifications are a non-standard deviation to the already stretched schematics of his weapon, and that while it might be technically possible to outfit it as such no Techpriest in their right mind would dare alter the weapon further in reverence to the machine spirit.

2) Modifications on the black market could be achieved, but the reliability would be questionable as this is not being done by a fully trained Adeptus Mechanicus weaponsmith.

3) Freelance weaponsmiths among the noble houses could make the adjustments to outfit the weapon with the ammo specifications needed, but at considerable personal expense and not without passing their information networks examinations.

A seperate issue to consider is weight. How much can this character carry, and how much would this completed weapon weigh?

First off, most combi-weapons are single shot or a very limited amount of shots. The Combi process strips the gun out of a lot of it's componments to make it as compact as possible. Needless to say it isn't built to deal with as much stress as a nomal melta. It could stress the parts or machine-spirit out and at worst be considered Tech-Heresy (a serious allegation). So in short, Reliability, Tech-Heresy and ruined weapons.

Second, Bulk and Weight, this would be a massive weapon that is HEAVY and huge, and having one feeding tube would get in the way, let alone a double sized one that has an ADDITIONAL seperate kind of ammo feed needed and a special ammo backpack that holds 2 different kinds of ammo.

Third, it just smacks of blatant powergaming, I have never heard of any weapon like this in ALL of 40k. Combi-weapons are all single shots or a small number of shots. He needs to have some better justification for going against the holy shematics.

He's decided to drop the combi weapon and is going for two standard ones (and the inherent encumbrance) instead.

Thanks for the help.

Have fun lugging around two full-sized ammo backpacks :-P

Why doesn't he just get a multi-melta?
