Doubt about Chrown Regent

By DrMontecristo, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Hi!

I have always a discussion with a friend playing… Can I use the Chrown Regent to redirect a challenge that I initiated?

You can, but it would be really odd to do so.

Crown Regent can only redirect a challenge immediately after it is declared. You don't get to see anything other than they type of challenge, the person is is declared against, and the attackers that are declared. So, redirecting your own challenge looks like "I declare a military challenge against Steve with characters A, B, & C. Then I redirect it to Mike." This begs the question, why didn't you just challenge Mike in the first place? So yeah, you could do this, but it's kind of a waste.

Now, if what you are trying to do is say "I declare a military challenge against Steve with A, B, & C. Oh, Steve defends with X, Y, & Z? In that case, I want to redirect to Mike.", you are missing the timing limitations on Crown Regent - which can only redirect immediately after the attacking characters are knelt, before anything else happens.

I have seen the question asked in my games because of a simple mistake of miscounting STR or not seeing certain cards in play at the time of initiating the challenge(like Frozen Moat for example). They are like "oh crap, can I redirect it"? This is all before anything else is done in the challenge.

So, a case of not paying attention to what the opponent has is one reason I can understand…

Thanks for answers ;) , it was only to know ir we were arguing in correct way.

I know you can't after declaring defenders, but… can u use it after other player uses the other title, the one that allows u to redirect a non-defended military challenge on you? (sorry for not knowing the name, I don't play the game in english).

Anyhow, thanks again u 2 for answering :D

Yup, seems this one was a silly-doubt. Thanks ;)
