Attunement items for wizards

By Yamusha, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

Reading the rules for wizards I undeerstand that wizards can have an attuned staff and the attunement level is 1 at rank 1.

But I dont understand how to raise the attunement level of the staff. Doues it increase automatically with the wizard is rank 2? I mean, when the wizard is rank 2 then the staff attunement level changes to 2?? and at rank 3 changes to attunement level 3?? Does this have any cost for the wizard?? (in money or advancements??).

What is your opinion?

Regards

No opinion, but as our wizard is hitting rank 2 I'm curious on this as well.

There is no set mechanical way for it to happen. It's usually resolved via story/fiat.

We use a straight monetary value: 7.5g per attunement upgrade. If you figure out a nice house rule, please let us know :)

Istm you can pretty much sell any [W] bonus at max 1 per rank, for 1 xp without balance issues.

Advanced magic and wizardy book from Winds of magic expantions says something about attuned weapons it also gives some examples with the tasks a wizard from different colleges needs to complete in order to get an attuned rank 2 weapon.

I played a grey wizard through three long campaigns over the last two years, and the issue of further attuning my weapon came up more than once during that time. As a grey wizard I chose to have a sword, rather than a staff for my personal attuned item. The way we handled it was basically having the wizard college attune the item for me once I had reached a sufficiently high level, and we reached a natural point in the story for me to return to my college. This was between the 2nd and 3rd campaigns.

What really made this process troublesome was the fact that I chose to forge a new sword for myself, one that would more look the part of a weapon for a great wizard. (cost me 20g, **** dwarfs) So I had to throw away the sword I originally had attuned for me. The college then attuned the new sword, and it was attuned for 2 white dice.

Later on in the 3rd campaign I enchanted the sword even further by myself, and it gained various other qualities as well.

So, either you attune it yourself (which can be very difficult and dangerous), or petition your college, or some other high level wizard to do it for you. If it fits the story, there should be no problem.
