A little worried about the game and how it may evolve

… and one of the things I appreciate about FFG's game is the "spreading around" of races. Or more accurately, the attempt to not focus the game SOLELY on races. In Decipher's game, there was a VERY defined system for each of the races… Dwarf, Elf, Man, Orc, Urak-hai, Southron, etc… and increasingly, it seemed to penalize you for trying to stray too far outside of those races….

IMHO

… I don't think it's true when you say it was SOLELY based around races. In fact I liked that, while you could make decks around one race or theme, it was also very easy to make decks based on certain parts of the story (thus mixing races) and splash cultures in the same deck. This was especially true in the first sets, when there weren't many cards for each culture, you actually had to mix them. Don't know if you remember, or maybe you started later, but actually "rainbow decks" were in fact the first decks to appear in the game…

Please note that my use of "SOLELY" (focusing on race) was directed at FFG's game NOT doing this. And note that I actually said basically the same thing about the rainbow decks (note the use of the word "increasingly"). I will stick to my statement (by rewording perhaps) that Decipher made it more impractical to stray widely outside of focused cultures… Not impossible.

… (and since, I primarliy centered my decks around Gandalf- as Brownmatle will confirm- I was pretty familiar with attempting to bring in elements of various freep cultures)…

Allso different versions of on character leaves the player more room to chose, the one that suits best to the scenario, in lore vice or game vice.

The Core Aragorn, is more like leader in the end of the books. More openly fighting against evel forces, and the new Aragorn is more Strider type. Avoiding the Eeeking Eye of Sauron. So when you read the scenario description, the player can chose witch one is more suitabte to that.

I allso think that it is good that the cards are from diferent spheres. It makes it easier to make Culture decks, that are not impossible to play. And ofcource you have to have: 1 fighter, one healer, and one Vise character in the group ;-) You only don't have the rogue/thief… pity…
