There are worse starts than this

By Mallumo, in Warhammer: Invasion The Card Game

I thought I'd share this since it might crack some people up - I know my opponent was very entertained by it.

This was my Dwarf rush deck today at the start of its second turn:

grollk.jpg

Six power in the kingdom, four in the quest zone, the cost to play units to the battlefield reduced by 1, all units in the battlefield gain Toughness 1 and deal +2 combat damage. Not bad, going into turn 2. Needless to say, my opponent's Orc rush that had so kindly provided the combat damage to my kingdom, found itself somewhat out-rushed.

Anyone else got something to share? happy.gif

Lol I like the psychology that dwarf grudge decks bring. Perfect counter to other rush decks. On the contrary, if the opponent doesn't attack you in the first few turns you have a hand chock full of useless cards lengua.gif

The new battlepack will make great use of those grudges! Nice start. I'm sure your opponent was thrilled.

Well, a lot of the credit here needs to go to New Trade Route and the Cannon Crew finding the Book, too. Still, "You dealt 1 combat damage? BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!" and the result was great.

Now if the deck would always start like this …

Know what they say? "Happens once every 1000 years" Nice start

You also can get very nasty start if playing an Orc deck with squigs in it. The Squig tracker in particular can lead to a very beatiful chain reaction, flooding your field with the green plague. I didn't take a foto but i remember something like this:

Spider Rider + Baby Squig providing the Loyalty for the Squig Tracker.

Then the Squig Tracker does pull another Squig Tracker, which brings in a Squig Pen. (Sadly i did not pull all 3 Trackers…)

Well, i had more then 5 loyalty on the field then and i did play a Grimgor via Morks Teef Ritual by the time my opponent finished his support start :P Happens once every 1000 years.

What I really like about the Grudge Cards is the mental pressure especially together with the new Honouring the Ancestors tactic. Giving the dwarf player free Grudge cards by an attack with low damage numbers isn't what the opponent wants. Mallumo posted a example of what can happen in best case scenario but even 1 or 2 Grudge Cards can be very strong. When the dwarf player has 1 resource left and and you have to predict a defending Tunnel Fighter/Kazador. So the risk by planning for big attacks is a simple My Life for the Hold.

I would say that it nearly always favors the dwarf player when he isn't being attacked early. As soon as you get into the mid-game, you already have strong defensive cards like My Life for the Hold, Honouring the Ancestors, Master Rune of Valaya or the setup for a decisive Reclaiming the Fallen lies ahead.

My friend played 7 cards onto the table during his first turn last night, playing Chaos. Biggest hand dump I've ever seen on turn 1.

Imagine DE control on the other side -> Temple of Spite, Offering to Hekarti, Walking Sacrifice onto quest, -1hp to Master of maps in DE turn, at the begining of dwarf's turn -2hp to DCC and You have no cards in hand, 3 resources and 1 card each turn… The best 1st turn hand I have ever had was 1st turn Fist/Urguck/Lord combo: rip with Urguck, baby squig, 3 rading parties, ritual with Lord and fists;-)

I'm trying to figure out what this means. Since there are 8 cards listed, I guess you went second. Do you mean you developed Urguck, used Rip to get him into play, dropped a Baby Squig for loyalty, used Fists on Urguck, (now you have 3 loyalty and 3 "resources"), put fists on top of your deck, then used Mork's Teef Ritual to bring out the Lord of Change? (1 resource left). Then I guess you could just keep using Fists over and over again, hopefully your opponent doesn't have any units on the board so his capital dies first, since you've already done 3 damage to yours? What's the deal with the three raiding camps? Just for overkill?

Also, Teokrata, I really like that you share your combos but sometimes I just don't get what the hell you mean when you write things like Plague bomb -> Doombull/Bannerman of the Crag, Sorceror, Camps + Zombie = infinite money and cards. For idiots like myself, could you please put in the steps rather than just a list of card names and parts of names?

OK specially for U - quests are listed for "perfect hand", U cannot kill hemself unless opponent have 2 toughness, so…

develop Urguck , than RIP him for 1 resource, drop Baby Squig for free, than Rainding Parties, draw a card, second quest draw a card, now U can play Ritual for free sacrifice Baby Squig and put Lord of Change into play, You have still 2 resources, You can play 3rd Raiding Parties, all other cards for 0 cost from top of your deck and even 1 card for 1 resource (for example arcane power for card draw effect), becouse last 1 resource is needed to play Fists of Mork and finish the combo. there are more combinations to kill in 1st turn, for example You can use some unit for 1 instead of baby squig, or 2 rituals, or play also with heroic task with liber mortis, and so on… I dont want to blow some people minds…

my favourite finish is second turn total massacre fist combo supported by Troll Vomit and Grimgor Ironhide. it uses some action chain combo. You remove 3 tokens and put Heroic Task action onto stack first, then response with Ritual sacrificing baby squig (or other unit) from heroic task, then response with Troll Vomit. Vomit resolves first killing all units, than comes into play Grimgor, then U resolve the Heroic Task action and give the hero Liber Mortis, raise from dead for example Lord Of Change and do other cool things like Urguck with Fists ;-)

You have just blown. my. mind.

Thanks for the details, the links were a nice touch. For some reason I read "Raiding Parties" as "Raiding Camps".

Also, I have never used Heroic Task because I love mulligans. I love them. I sometimes habitually take them when I don't have to.

Hah, I have a friend like this. He mulligans almost every single game, and has been known to mulligan himself down to a handsize of 4-5. I gave him a deck with Heroic Task and he hated it just simply because he wasn't allowed to mulligan. I told him it was for his own good, but he didn't see it that way.
