Faction Finder Quiz - check it out

By Jeff Tibbetts, in Dark Heresy Gamemasters

So, as many of you know I'm planning on moving my game to Ascension level. I would like the various puritan and radical philosophies of the Inquisition to play a stronger role, so I have created a little quiz for my guys to see what faction they might align most closely with based on a couple of questions. Three questions, to be exact. It's really simple.

I would love for you guys to check it out. I pulled most of the faction briefs from Lexicanum since I was in a hurry, and I tweaked them a bit. I'm looking for any input you can give me. Thanks in advance for checking it out! I know it's rather clunky and frankly I'm okay with that. I'm really just looking at a tool for my players to use once or twice and that's it.

side note: I hope I'm allowed to post a link here. If the mods would like me to pull it, that's fine. If you're interested you can always message me.

Fun idea. I would have liked it more if it was longer and more specific but good anyhow. This is my results by the way.

Puritan > final step – con results 5

The Imperium will decay without our guidance and we must not rest until we stabilize it.

Many Inquisitors are steadfast in working towards stability. The Libricars are zealous in this belief (and also their interpretation of what “stable” means). Also, the Amalathian credo advocates a constant vigilance and grind-stone work ethic. Monodominants often feel that stability can’t include psykers and xeno apologists. Ardentites also work towards stability in their own way.

Here are the groups in a nutshell.

Libricars are a Radical faction within the Inquisition. A faction founded in the Calaxian system, which adheres to an extension of Amalathian belief, the Libricars believe in the widespread purging of all Imperial institutions of all corruption and heresy, including the Inquisition, no matter how minor.

The Amalathians are the single largest faction within the Puritans, and therefore the entirety of the Inquisition. The Amalathians believe that the Emperor has a grand plan and that it is unfolding as it should. They are therefore concerned with maintaining the status quo and react vehemently against change. They are less concerned about the threat of mutation, witchery and the like, and more active in ensuring there is harmony within the vast Imperial organizations, that any rivalries and discord are dealt with and kept to a minimum. It is the code of the Amalathaian that strength is achieved through unity, and politicking and change will serve only to destabilize the Imperium. Noted amongst the many allies of the Amalathian are the Adeptus Arbites and local security forces. The mandate of such organizations being the upholding of imperial law and order thus maintaining the status quo and, in the eyes of the Amalathian, the strength inherent in the Imperium and the Emperor’s design for it.

Monodominants are an extremist Puritan faction of the Inquisition known for their uncompromising prosecution of perceived enemies of the Imperium. The archetypal Puritan in many respects. They are a powerful force, popular with young and naive recruits, and as their name implies, they are of the firm belief that the Imperium, and only the Imperium, should be allowed to exist. They are zealous supporters of the concept of manifest destiny, and believe that this is only achievable by the extermination of all threats and impurities. Xenos, witchcraft, heresy, blasphemy, mutation and civil disobedience are crimes punishable by death in the eyes of a Monodominant and those accused of such crimes can expect no reprieve. Though their uncompromising nature is considered somewhat abhorrent at worst, and crudely heavy-handed at best, they are Puritans as opposed to Radicals – primarily because Inquisitors of their extreme natures would not even consider allying himself to a Daemon, no matter the circumstances.

The Ardentites are focused on the belief that the power of the God-Emperor is likely to manifest not in a Divine Avatar but either through a group or, more likely, through the entirety of Mankind itself. While humanity evolves into becoming a psychic race, which is evidenced by the gradual rise in mutation and rise of psychic abilities, the ultimate aim of the Emperor is to protect Mankind in this vulnerable state by disseminating his power throughout the entire population. Thus, Ardentites do not concern themselves with seeking remarkable individuals but instead attempt to locate evidence of the Emperor’s presence in such individuals by proof of talent or psychic ability. This process is considered vague and imprecise as none have yet been able to determine what consists of evidence of the Emperor’s presence. Despite this being the case, there is no end to accounts of miraculous events which are accounted to the intervention of the Emperor. They are sometimes referred to as Miracle Chasers by others in the Inquisition. Many regard them as being eccentric individuals who seek the work of the Emperor everywhere. This makes them excellent logicians and investigators, however, and their usefulness as allies is rarely disputed. They are thought of as naive idealists.

Nice! I think that would be fun if we all post our results.

As for length… I wanted to keep it as simple as possible, and the depth will come through discussion with my players. Maybe someone can expand the idea even further if there's interest in it. I wouldn't mind doing it but I'm pretty obsessive, so I can see myself spending a LOT of time doing it…
