A couple of questions for you guys (and gals)

By Darth Hideous, in WFRP Rules Questions

I am a new Warhammer 3rd GM. And I had a practice game session that led to these questions (I am sure more playing will result in more questions):

1. Can magic attacks be dodged, parried or blocked? Fx the bright order spell “great fires of U’Zhul” and the basic spell “Magic dart”

2. Specialization in spellcraft “rank 1 spells” does that mean in all “rank 1 spells” or only one spell? (likewise with weapon skill is the specialization with all “hand weapons” or only one kind of hand weapon)

3. Can talent cards be exhausted in response Fx if a character wants to regain 2 stress when a creature appears that have fear or terror?

4. Why would a player choose the channeling specialization “reckless” when they can choose their own “college order” Fx the bright order?

I hope I can get the answers before we switch from 2nd to 3rd warhammer rules lengua.gif (August 11)
Thanks

WELCOME TO WFRP3!

1. Can magic attacks be dodged, parried or blocked? Fx the bright order spell “great fires of U’Zhul” and the basic spell “Magic dart”

If the spell says that the target's defense is on there, then yes.

2. Specialization in spellcraft “rank 1 spells” does that mean in all “rank 1 spells” or only one spell? (likewise with weapon skill is the specialization with all “hand weapons” or only one kind of hand weapon)

It is universal: ALL rank 1 spells are affected. ALL hand weapons are affected.

3. Can talent cards be exhausted in response Fx if a character wants to regain 2 stress when a creature appears that have fear or terror?

I would allow it. Reaction type things are good.

4. Why would a player choose the channeling specialization “reckless” when they can choose their own “college order” Fx the bright order?

Not sure about this one. Someone else may have an idea for you here.

If the spell says that the target's defense is on there, then yes.

As the dodge card specifically mention that it can be used against spells or blessings that target your defense I only allow the use of dodge against spells (and blessings). Block can be used against ranged and melee attacks and parry can only be used against melee attacks.

In my games I allow "stacking" of specializations, not sure if this is an official rule though.
However if stacking specializations is allowed (in your group or officially) being a Bright Wizard and channeling in reckless stance would yield two fortune dice to the roll if the player had both the Channeling Aqshy and the Channeling Reckless specializations. (I obviously do not allow a character to purchase the same specialization twice).

Also, specializations add flavor to the character, what's "best" in terms of rolling dice might not be the most fun or character defining.

Thanks for the answers :-) I am a little bit more ready for the 3rd ed.
