Talisman Character Busts

By dogfacedboyuk1, in Talisman

Just thought I d post a heads up on a project I will be starting this week. Although I am pleased to see plastic miniatures included for my all time favourite boardgame I was a little disappointed that they dont really match up to the quality of GWs warhammer minis. Luckily I intend to remedy this by resculpting my own set of characters as some nice sized busts on a plinth display. I havent decided how big to do these yet, I would guess small enough to fit three on one space comfortably. Yet to work that out. The plinth base will be quite tall and incorporate a theme related to the character, ie the dwarf would have a rough hewn stone look with maybe some runes around it etc. I will post pictures of work in progress and of course final pictures as often as I can, in the meantime you can look at my recent work at the links below.

These are on a much larger scale than the busts will be of course.

If people would like to contribute ideas thats great. I m not worried about sticking to existing character art. I want originality really. One idea I like is that the toads will be clothed somehow to indicate that it was once a person. First character up is the Sage who is one of my personal favourites. I ve only played three games since i was a kid though so i havent got experience of all of them yet!

Post comments of who you would like to see next and of course any ideas you may have.

Thanks,

For size you might want to look at the FFG A Game Of Thrones LCG which comes with something like you describe.

Thanks for that, I can say now that they are going to be alot bigger than that though! I would guess at a plinth base at least 4 or 5 cm high with a width of about 2 or 3 cm. i will need to measure the board squares exactly later today.

One more thing I didn't mention by the way is that jon will be kindly posting these project updates on Talisman Islands website, so you can look there to see how these are coming along as well.

Perhaps a suggestion or two about people/faces that might be nice matches for the characters might be in order, seeing as I doubt you would be able to make exact copies of existing miniatures.

I know a couple of people who might suit the Troll or Ghoul, but that's another story! gran_risa.gif

Well the first one - the warrior is nearly finished. I will be posting a picture here tonight. It has been a while coming I know, but it only took me 2 1/2 to sculpt the head plus some additional time for correction, refinement and details. All in all, only the hair has cost me any serious time. Photo later tonight!

Right here is the Warrior bust. It is still in progress with some tidying on the hair and other areas and the necklace to bend into place and of course a column base which will feature a sword and other details yet to be finalised. I haven't worked out what to use for the bases yet so don't expect to see that for a while. Anyway, hope you like him. I will post more when done of course. Any suggestions for the next one will be taken onboard

Absolutely awesome detail!

The Warrior looks awesome ! aplauso.gif

Here is the Talisman warrior, now i have to design a pedestal base for him which i may leave off for a while, until i work outr what im going to use. The next Talisman characters under consideration are the Elf and the Ghoul. But hell it might be neither of those!! Any suggestions let me know. I will be doing a complete set eventually which will be alot of busts by the time they have released all the expansions!

That's pretty astounding! Way beyond my playdoe league.

Thanks JC, but I would have to say this is my weakest sculpt to date - there should be a link around here with some other examples of my stuff which is beter. Hopefully I can make the next one a little better, elf or ghoul I'm thinking.
